Central heating

Just wondering - has anyone actually turned their central heating on yet? The temperatures for end of October have been ridiculous - it was 21C on Saturday afternoon here in SW London - basically as warm as a nice sunny summer's day.

I know gas is very expensive at the moment, but I haven't needed to go anywhere near turning the heating on, or even having to wear that 2nd jumper!

It's all a bit worrying really. It's not right.

Heating has been enabled here but fired up very sporadically. It's the kitchen that's the issue here being perfectly north facing with no solar gain whatsoever.

I agree though, it's not right at all. Colleagues in Spain were heading out this past weekend, mid to high 20s and well above average.

Not had the heating on at all here since around March. Temperature in the hall right now is 23.3°C, and we even had to run the bedroom aircon overnight a week or so ago. If anything the house has been a bit too warm, and I've been reluctant to run the cooling systems, as I try to only run those when there is an excess of PV generation.

The reason is really just down to the very mild weather. The outdoor temperature needs to get into single figures for a few days in a row for our house to start to cool down, and this hasn't happened yet. Today is the coolest it's been here for a while, yet it's still close to 15°C outdoors, which is pretty crazy for an early evening in October.

Temp has been dropping into single figures overnight for a week or two here. Daytime has been 13-15℃. So while the central heating has remained off I have run the A2A for 30mins every morning to warm the house up a bit. Usually the heating goes on beginning of October.

No central heating on here since March. Fireplace (8kw Avalon multifuel stove) burning seasoned logs on a few occasions but not since early October.

And I keep the back door open for the cats. It's nicer outside than inside at my home.

Gas boiler turned off end of April 2021, its still off. GSHP used in morning on radiators, then after breakfast the A2A heatpumps have been banging out the heat to tropical levels, not far off half the leccy import as Oct last year and now energy and financially negative due to WT1.

Two storage heaters on through the Go Faster night window to keep the house around 16.5 degs. Enough RE generated left over to top up WT1 VB.

Alternating gas & electric for HWT depending on how hard the wind is blowing the day before. About 10% of energy use for HWT is now gas.

Travel home tomorrow so more SH's will be on and WBS1 will get a good run.

Going into November with full control and multiple choices at fingertips is a wonderful reality.

GCH off since Feb 22. Total gas used in 2022 so far...161kWh.

Still not on but expecting to need to fire it up in a few days as the warm spell is ending now, still around 18C indoors though. I always try to put it off every year until the clocks change but I think I've only ever managed that once before. I have got a small storage heater to help if there's any solar left after heating the hot water tank but as the panels are now getting shading from a tree just beyond my garden there's seldom any to spare.
