Saw one on what was presumably xmas eve!? parked up & had a nosey round it.
Just seems like there is too much interior gubbins & not enough space internally, high rising divider toward the console, trad looking gearstick, looked a bit tight in the back.

front interior space reminded me of a prius taxi.

Blocky exterior reminded me of a ford muscle car.

How are they selling?

The Polestar 2 is based on the Volvo XC40 platform/chassis/interior, but with some Polestar tweaks to differentiate it from its frumpier taller Volvo brother. It's basically been squashed to make it a 5-door hatch instead of an SUV.

As the XC40 platform is also an ICE platform that means its internal space is already compromised with things like transmission tunnel and a big engine bay/firewall close to the front passengers. Hence it's lack of internal space vs. the similarly sized Tesla Model 3.

They've sold 50,000 globally so far, which they're apparently really pleased with.

For me, "ground up BEV platform" was a criteria. I wouldn't buy a BEV built on an ICEV platform because it is very unlikely to be any good. (Audi eTron GT and a lottery win notwithstanding).

The Polestar 3 is also sharing a platform with another Volvo design - the EX90. Which actually I thought was a mixed powertrain model but apparently isn't. They're both EV-only. But it's a 3 row 7 seat SUV with a 111kWh battery to "solve" the range issue that you get with a 3 ton brick.

It's worth noting that lease prices at least are about halfway between an MG5 and a Tesla Model 3, so it really isn't directly comparable.

Thanks fellas, I saw it in the dark, so the ice hump of the exhaust channel could not be seen in the murky depths, but explains a lot about the car ( to me at least) ..whilst the tes 3 is being looked at *again* & fault "kinda" acknowledged by service staff soing the physical job daughter & I were discussing how much difference to inner space a flat floorpan makes, (on the rare occasions we are 3 in the 3 she leans forward to grab a ringing phone, mess around with screen settings easily that a non dedicated bev design falls flat on, the exhaust channel is the way of the dinosaur ..& that meteorite) point being space, or the perception of works better sans" hump" ..something we loved about the a class mini merc & smart cars.

If you want to make a car floor as light as possible to save fuel but not lose too much strength, surely putting ribbing in, or one big one like an old-fashioned transmission tunnel could be a good idea?
