"In 2022, the UK imported more than 38,000 tonnes of honey from its biggest supplier, China, where there is a known risk of adulteration with sugar syrup. Country of origin labelling is not required for a blended product from more than one country, so many shoppers don’t know a cheap pot of honey probably originated in China"
“If you see honey that is cheap as 75p a jar, it is too good to be true. It’s unrealistic for people to be able to produce genuine honey at those prices.
About time stupid uk shoppers's woke the hell up! & a British honey campaign was erected to help highlight the parlous state of bee species

But those Brexit benefits...
We all knew food standards would be a huge victim.

There are a whole bunch of foods that you can be 100% sure are fake if you're buying them from the supermarket: Honey, Oregano, Olive oil, are just a few examples.

Gus, its even worse here in France.
Bee keepers here in France found that large quantities of so called Honey entering the EEC is not honey but a coloured sugar based syrup. So it was rejected.
Guess where it is going to?

Why did the bee refuse the cheap honey? It didn't want to compromise its sweet standards!
Re: All UK honey tested in EU fraud investigation fails authenticity test
There has been counterfeit as long as there has been customers.
The chinese baby milk formula scandal was a recent "biggie" padded out with melamine.
& yes honey has been prone to this for a good few years but the level is rising.
Clockman, that rejected faux "honey" should be impounded & supplier made to pay for its proper disposal, (& fined) not turned awayto try again at anoth er port.

This “honey” will be used in food preparation, or diluted with other products until the contents agree with the specification required for use (sucrose content, pesticide content, banned veterinary medications, etc).
Unlikely to be used for kellogs frosties but may be used in some oblique suppliers marked up as some cheap ‘frosties’ look-alike on the market - who knows where it might end up. Possibly sent back to the same buyers after further dilution such that the added sucrose, etc is within the limits of the allowed content.
0ne would expect it to be blended by Rowse, or whoever the importer was, to conform “roughly” with minimum UK specifications for these products on supermarket shelves.
One must remember, too, that ‘manuka’ honey sales vastly exceed the annual production of the real McCoy.
