VHF Radio interference & Solar power

#1

Post by SporranMcDonald »

It's a bungalow.
Inverter & batteries in the attic.
Main (open) living space is directly underneath.

My old Grundig analogue, portable radio is a family heirloom and usually has very good sound quality on VHF.

When the sun is strong, so is the interference. When low-sun / no-sun : no interference.

All aerial positions tried. All radio positions in the room . . . getting to about 10-metres away from the inverter.

There is a rather massive ferrite ring around a couple of the Solis inverter cables.

Is this a well-known problem ?

Do I need to move to a digital radio ?
4 kWp Solar PV : 50%/50% SE/SW : Solis Hybrid 3.6 : Pylontec 9.6 kWh
5 kW & 4kW Air-to-Air Mitsubishi Heat Pumps
Ripple : Graig Fatha & Kirk Hill . . . . plus various other renewable projects.
No Car : bicycles : bus & train

Are you able to try a plug in aerial.

Unfortunately, these old portable radios do not have external aerial ports. . . .. [ I'm now wondering whether an external aerial could be bodged-in as a DIY project . . . . ]
