I have had no smart meter signal in Scotland and given everything I read about the SMETS 2 roll out and the Arqiva network being complete I was getting a bit depressed about the future. I wrote to someone at the DCC and got a great reply. They for the first time acknowledged that I will never get coverage from the low frequency network.
However there is good news. There are plans to have wifi based smart meters for those who cannot receive a SMETS 2 signal for whatever reason. The time scale didn't seem too long with it being reviewed at the moment into 2024. My fear is that the sticking point will be GCHQ. Hopefully the 1% of us isn't enough to bring the grid down if all the meters are hacked and turned off at the same time.
