Solar planning permission relaxed in Scotland

#1

Post by Fueltheburn »

I have just read an article about the relaxation of some planning permission laws in Scotland.
The most interesting of these to me is that the maximum square metre for a ground mount system without requiring planning permission has been upped from 9 m2 to 12 m2.
3kW FIT Solar
0.8kW balcony solar.
2,372 W of turbine at Whitelaw Brae
6kw Panasonic air to air heat pump for downstairs.
2 WBS. Stovax 8kw and 5kw Morso squirrel
Rointe D series in 2 bedrooms and bathroom.
Aiming to go fully electric....

That's excellent news. In Wales*, my ever so long planned ground mount would involve 4 panels of 1.1m by 2.1m, so slightly exceeding the 9m2 and the 3m on a side rule. Of course, popping them on the also planned 'ladder store' should be OK.

What has the 3m on any side rule be changed too?

*We also have a silly ASHP rule, requiring PP if any part of the unit is within 3m of a boundary, whereas it's 1m in England.
8.7kWp PV [2.12kWp SSW + 4.61kWp ESE PV + 2.0kWp WNW PV]
Two BEV's.
Two small A2A heatpumps.
20kWh Battery storage.

Glad to hear that. Is this a recent change? I ask as PP restrictions were dialed back a couple of years back?

Is this area in the plane of the panels or horizontal ?

Not for domestic it seems  , but just do the Joeboy Bootroom or the Nowty Ladder Store, then its a building and can be big as you like.

"Alongside rooftop installations, free-standing solar panels within the curtilage of non-domestic buildings (up to 12 square metres) are now permitted, with relaxed restrictions for solar canopies."

But it's a good question: does the restriction apply to the panel are or the horizontal plane?

I always assumed it was the face of the panels and not the footprint. If it was the footprint, I would set mine up near vertical :xx:

Domestic will likely follow the commercial in this I would think....maybe a half a year behind if we are lucky.

I will put them down anyway. It's not like someone will be around with a tape measure anytime soon.
