I think they were banking on their larger cylindrical batt bringing down costs but that seems to have big production probs.

That yes for sure - the dry electrodes process has proven to be extremely hard to solve for volume manufacturing m, and the 4680 cell batteries in the Texas Y and Cybertruck haven’t performed nearly as well as expected. But also they’ve have reliability issues with the HGVs they do have on the road, and of course the factory line isn’t built, and Elon is making them develop CyberCab, CyberBus and that Robot thing as a higher priority.
