Pylontech extra2000 batteries

#1

Post by JC_UK »

Hi,

First post.

I've inherited a set of 4 extra2000 2.4kwh pylontech batteries, and struggling to find any info past a user guide.

Does anyone know where I can source some of the black two pole connectors to daisy chain the outputs together please?

Also anyone know if these can be used in parallel with more modern pylontech batteries such as the us2000c with inverters such as the sofar me3000 ?

Many thanks
JC

They should be out there on an internet search, logged by a manuals site as I recall.
The manual was very limited also.
Unfortunately the UK master distributor is not much cop when it comes to answering questions about older product & the Chinese company fails to understand english, frustrating as hell.
What's the status of the batteries? ..are you offloading or incorporating them?

These will now be 10 or more years old. How have you come into possession? Any problems? So long as they haven't been left in a discharged state for an excessive period they should be still serviceable and will operate efficiently even if their capacity has diminished somewhat.

Hi

The batteries power ok and show good state on the LEDs.

I need to make up some cables to get them linked together and can then test properly.

We have 3.6kw over on the roof and a solar boost diverter for the hot water heating.
Electric only in the house, with log burner and overnight storage heaters for heating. No gas.
Will adding batteries impact the FIT payments we get from the panels? Rated at 50% of generation.

Hoping to use the 4 extra2000 batteries with 4 modern pylontechs to give 15-20 kWh storage and scale out further if needed.

Can we add one or two chargers to the house ? One for the older batteries and one for the modern ones?
Or only one for both sets of batteries.

Hoping to add further PV for the summer ready for EV when we find one to suit.

So another option may be a hybrid inverter for additional PV and batteries.

Many thanks
JC

The batteries have no effect on FiT so long as you AC-couple them not-behind the FiT production meter.

It is probably a good idea to get a Hybrid inverter if you plan to add solar because this will function with just the batteries for now but will have MPPT capacity to plug solar panels straight in. I believe that your stack of mixed batteries will function as if they all had the capacity of the weakest, so if your weakest "2.4kWh" battery now has a capacity of 2kWh then the stack of 8 (4x old, 4x new) will give you 16kWh.

Hi again

So could I use a sofar inverter for the modern pylontech batteries and a hybrid inverter for the new PV and old pylontech batteries ?

Many thanks

You could have two systems. But they won't necessarily play nicely! People trying this have found one system charging at full whack while the other discharges at full-whack. A solution is to have one system "dumb" and the other "smart".

In winter you could have one system charging at full whack during the cheap period then discharging a hundred watts (or whatever) for the other 20 hrs. And have the other system targeting zero export.

In summer you could have one system charging at a kW 9am-4pm and discharging by 500W the rest of the time, while the other targets zero export.

Not perfect but it'd work. A better solution would be to have AC coupled inverter-charger and hybrid inverter that communicate...

Hi again,

Back to original question - anyone know where I can source the black power connectors and/or cables to make up some additional leads to connect the 4 extra2000 batteries together please?

If you search google for "pylontech extra2000 pdf" , you can find a few docs for those batteries.

One of them is here, https://www.nuvisionenergy.co.uk/image/ ... Manual.pdf

I suspect your going to have to make your own cables up with those batteries but should not be that hard to do. They may not have a modern enough firmware to work with a Sofar ME3000SP as a lithium battery, but they might work stand alone and you fool the Sofar to think they are lead acid batteries with modified voltages set.

It would be interesting to see how much capacity they have left considering their age.
16.9kW PV > 107MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 22MWh generated
5 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 510 m3

Hi

Two of the extra2000 batteries came from a relatives house and were set up with a Solax x1 hybrid inverter which stayed with the property.

How can I check capacity - voltage when fully charged?

Many thanks
