If being installed on a flat roof, solar panels are subject to the following conditions:

panels cannot be sited within 1 metre of the external edge of the roof; or
panels cannot protrude more than 1 metre above the plane of the roof.

I'm saying nothing but counting down another 3 years and 3 months before I don't have to worry about PP.

Door canopies and porch roofs with a single panel should be a no brainer as an intro to solar. For many people it will only cover baseload with nothing going to waste. Shouldn't be expensive to do either.
Brill link, many thanks. That's certainly a strong looking bracket.

Now I'm picturing roof mounted PV, but with an extra row mounted to the wall to give additional capacity.

On a slightly different tack, could a bifacial panel replace a fixed skylight and let a bit of light through?

In fact I am wondering about converting a complete conservatory corrugated transparent PVC roof with PV panels.
We replaced the polycarb roof (that can be seen in my earlier picture), with a double glazed glass roof. I did ponder solar glass at the time, but it was expensive and low efficiency, I think 4%. But now there are a lot of options, and the power/efficiency increases depending on what level of opacity you are willing to accept. I think 12%+ is possible.

I just thought the link might promote ideas and give an idea of what a fabricated bracket would look like. Personally I think it is overkill, a triangular bracket fabricated to the ange you want plus a strut from the right angle to the centreish of the hypotenuse would be sufficient.

And nosing around the Polysolar website, they have solar glass of 12% to 20% efficiency, but I think the upper end is dark.

Nice looking pictures on this page:

I replaced a wired single skin glaze passageway in the house with double-glazed glass too.

The thing is those solar glass panels look to be a lot more expensive then bifacial, let alone standard panels. A local station had panels that let light through between the semiconductor rectangles and that looked quite pleasing but cost a number of hundred thousand pounds and was scrapped after a few years.

Actual cost £4.2M

This company popped up.
Hoymiles

They sell in Germany, I like the 4 separate panel input idea. Add a dtu (comms) and I'll got a quick plug n play to test the system....ehm system! With the possibilty of a bit of expansion and the four (potential) panels can work independently.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325444541868 ... 4agvAAAAAA

https://www.mcelectrical.com.au/hoymile ... er-review/

This is a frontrunner at the moment.

The inverter is £255 and the dtu is a ton. So that's £355 + the £320 for the two 405W panels. £675 with the capacity to expand by a further 2 of 405W panels. If we did do that we'd have a 1.6kW system for a squeak under a grand, thoughts on any of it?
