Re: Storage Heaters
Very true Nowty! Last Winter was a great test run of these units, so this year we are going for it. SWMBO is running with this one and I'm just tagging along fitting where she tells me to.

Re: Storage Heaters
I have to admit i had forgotten about this particular "resource" I think the last time i bought anything from here must be over a decade ago.
I recall falling out of favour with it as it seemed to be full of new stuff rather than second hand / probably around the same time i found freecycle I guess.
Thanks again though.

Tomorrow I'll begin installing the extra storage units, another 4.25kW of storage heaters adding a further 21.25kWh of stored energy potential. That will be as near as damn it 60kWh storage heater capacity which along with the WBS will completely replace gas for home heating.Stinsy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 8:53 am The theme I see over and over again form those who’ve switch (all or part) from gas to electric heat is that the gas boiler was clearly less efficient than imagined. Obviously electric only works with the CoP of a heat pump or with cheap-rate electric because electric is so much more expensive than gas.
Convincing those who’re not ready to be convinced is a fruitless endeavour.

Re: Storage Heaters
Are you sure that you have a supply that can deliver that much power? I had a new cable and supply run in here, three phase, although we are only using one phase. Because our house is all-electric, I asked SSE for the biggest supply cable they could fit (made no difference to the cost, as it turns out). The supply we have has a 100A fuse but that is not the maximum supply rating, the supply is rated to deliver 15kVA maximum, so the most we can draw is about 65A. Apparently the fuse rating is always a lot higher than the supply maximum rating, as they don't want the fuses to run hot (so I was told). I asked if there was any way this could be uprated to more than 15kVA when the car charger went in, but they told me that this was the absolute maximum they offered to any house with a single phase supply and that if we needed more we'd need to change to three phase.Joeboy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 9:11 am Check this out Iain!

Luckily we do have the option of changing the supply to three phase if we need it, as the underground cable coming in is three phase, it's just set up to only use one phase at the moment. I've thought about getting the meter changed so we can use all three phases but I'm reasonably convinced we can manage OK on the supply we have, as long as I take care with the maximum loads we have on overnight and keep the total to no more than the 15kVA limit.

We are good, checked last year before upgrade and had it running at over 90A since. 21kW+ if memory serves.Oldgreybeard wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 9:28 amAre you sure that you have a supply that can deliver that much power? Re: Storage Heaters
I am more of a draught Guinness drinking person.
Don’t know much about drinking stuff from bottles. There is an advert on one of the T.V. movie channels that shows a bloke storing wine bottles in an under ground bunker. Cant see any storage heaters in his bunker.
What affect will heating the bottles at one end have on your Wine store.
Are the bottles put in the rack in proportion / position to the amount of heat / cooling required.

Good question and tbh I've not noticed . Will try one soon though to confirm!ALAN/ALAN D wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 9:43 am I am more of a draught Guinness drinking person.
