Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
We now have 164 members and maybe the majority have Solar PV and at least 25 of us have bought into either the Ripple WT1 or WT2. A few might even have their own real wind turbines or even hydro power. Some are members of other Co-Ops in long term Solar, Wind, or Hydro projects too.
Many of us have listed (stock market) investments but I think these are just too nebulous, complicated, and can too easily be bought and sold so I don't believe these should be included.
So it would be nice to know how much green leccy us Camelot members as a group would normally generate in an average year. I don’t want to publish any table or any individual's details or anything like that.
But would like to occasionally publish something simple like,
In an average year x Camelot members generate y kWh of renewable energy.
So, I would like members to preferably PM me with their average annual generation and I will re-post the total every month or so. Hopefully as more and more Solar PV, WT’s are installed and as more members join, the total will always increase.
If you don't want to take part that's fine too.
Preferably PM me something simple.
Taking myself as an example for my annual generation,
Solar PV - 10,600 kWh
Ripple WT1 - 8000 kWh
Ripple WT2 - 8000 kWh
Total - 26,600 kWh
Others might include,
My Own Wind Turbine – Some might have their own turbines or be members of other Co-Ops.
Hydro – Some might have their own or be members of other Co-Ops.
Thermal Solar - Only if you have a reasonable estimate of your annual yield in kWh.
Heat Pumps - Only if you have a reasonable estimate of your annual net heat extraction after accounting for the running energy.
It does not need to be 100% accurate and I certainly don't want monthly or yearly actuals, I have even rounded my own numbers a bit.
I know WT2 won’t generate for a while but it’s a known quantity and as long as its been committed to I think its worth including.
So to start with, as I have 3 persons info which includes myself,
In an average year 3 Camelot members will generate 70,610 kWh of renewable energy.

PM sent, this will be very interesting.
For my own geekery I will at some point work out the shares RE generation but agree that its not nuts & bolts so should be kept off (other than in my mind) this addition.
Already well on the way to our 1st Camelot 0.1 GigaWatt, that is mindblowing to me as surely GigaWatt is a power station unit of use?

Re: Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
Latest update so keep em coming, so far across 5 members we have Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Ripple Wind, Personal Wind, and Coop Hydro.
I would not be surprised if we have over a GWh of annual generation hidden in the membership.
In an average year 5 Camelot members will generate 94,444 kWh of renewable energy.

Re: Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
Interestingly everyone so far who has a share in the ripple windfarms also has solar PV.
In an average year 9 Camelot members will generate 131,812 kWh of renewable energy.

Re: Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
I imagine quite a few of us pre-dated swindlesave rooftop no-turnbines, & having lost the dream of a flying turnip due to small gardens, turbulence (wif or rooftop induced) opted for a quieter solar / thermal plan.

Nowty,
If you are including measured Solar Thermal, then how about the heat generated by Heat Pumps (less the electric energy used to power them) if it can be measured?

I knew there was gong to be an unintended consequence.Countrypaul wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 2:01 pm Nowty,

I actually did not want to measure solar thermal as the thread title was about electrical generation but then thought I'd allow it if it could be reasonably measured. I thought there may be people who have used their roof more effectively for solar thermal instead of solar PV.
I did think about heatpumps but decided they were a stretch too far because they still consume a fair amount of energy and could be seen as a more efficient heater rather than a generator. I forgot solar thermal probably do have an electrical pump too, but its likely to be pretty trivial and some could be passive in nature or even use a solar panel to run the pump. Only one person so far has submitted for solar thermal.
In order for this not to get too complicated I would rather exclude solar thermal than include heatpumps at this stage. I might add something in the future for heatpumps and the like and have a second line as energy saving as well as energy generated.
I like the Joeboy analogy of a Camelot Power station, but maybe we will end up with a Camelot Heat and Power plant.

Re: Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
It is a good way to ID trends, also an outstanding way to see what we as individuals can generate when combined in a Team effort. The appeal to me in the 131,812kWh pa figure is that there are no political masters allowing this to flow. We did this for our own varied, individual and all too human reasons. I don't mean that in a negative way at all. Go us! .

Do you want the data for calendar years, FIT years or something else?

Re: Camelot Members Annual Green Electric Generation
What you sent me is perfect !
In an average year 12 Camelot members will generate 170,435 kWh of renewable energy.
Still no ripple turbine ownership without solar PV and the ripple WT generation (includes WT2) is almost equal to Solar PV generation. It was slightly behind but its now slightly in front.
