In an average year 17 Camelot members will generate 110 MWh of renewable electricity onsite and 87 MWh remotely and will extract a net 24 MWh of renewable heat energy.

Does 30,0000 kWh not include all the "stuff" we consume as well ?. It just seems very high. We now have most stuff on electric so it is easy to quantify. Estimate (heat pump fitted 3 months ago) is about 30,000 kWh for heat, electricity, and running 2 ev's. We also have 3 ICE. C. 25k miles at 35mpg is roughly another 30,000 kWh so 60,000 kWh for 5 people is only 12,000 kWh each. I suppose it helps that we have not flown for 3 years now because of the "lurgy". Does anyone have a link to the source of the 30,000 kWh so I can read up on what it includes.

Quite the contrary, if we're aiming for carbon neutrality, while the bulk of energy use is via fossil fuels, which it is still, particularly for transportation, our energy use in its entirety is relevant. Hopefully as more people switch to EVs which, overall, use many fewer kWh/mile than ICE cars, our total kWh use per person will drop further. Similarly with heat pumps from oil/gas. That figure is for total energy usage including transport and heating. Thus of limited merit in comparing with our electricity generation.
I am sure that a lot of us have above average electricity usage. Not because we are wasteful or extragavant but because we are early adopters of EVs, heat pumps and battery storage. The latter two can displace the usage of gas for heating by increasing electricity consumption.

I think you're right, it's an estimate of our total energy consumption per year, in all forms, from all sources, all converted to one unit, kWh. It's a lot. But it's not surprising really, think about all the things that come into and go out if your ownership every year; food, water, sewage, packaging, building materials, clothes, car parts, household appliances, phone etc... They all take kWh to come in to being, to be transported, to be maintained, to be decommissioned.
I think that our energy use as a total is relevant.

Big update, I've been trawling through member's Sig's and where they have Solar PV quoted or ripple quoted, I've made a conservative estimate for those members. What I have noticed is that there are quite a few large heatpumps and solar thermal which must be extracting very large quantities of renewable heat but I cannot make any sensible estimates for those. But I reckon it probably exceeds the PV generation.
In an average year 33 Camelot members will generate 189 MWh of renewable electricity onsite and 119 MWh remotely and will extract a net 50 MWh of renewable heat energy.

Firstly this is all our own RE generated electricity only. No figures for saving on our own Sewage systems, grey water system, minimal building materials, locally sourced products, savings on all our Passive House's and buildings, R&D and savings on manufacturing our own RE equipment, re-using refurbished RE and other necessary equipment or savings made in using re-used gear. Savings on the environment are not included, nor is our Salt heated swimming pool or using and re-designing/modification of equipment to be more efficient.
There are other masses of other savings that come under sustainability topics, but as you gather, I am still writing the book on our 21-year Sustainability project that we started here in 2001.
On average our total used KWh generated Renewable energy here is 15859kwh per year.
Although over the years this has gradually improved as we enlarge our system.
Also we have 9 individual buildings, on our own Mini Grid, that have their own generating capability’s and getting actual true power used data is not as straightforward as it seems.
2 years ago i finally managed to get all 3off our wind turbines individually metered.
Mrs been nagging me for years about data.
Since 2008, when i started meters on our stuff, we have saved ourselves about £70,000 in electricity bills. And as everything we do has to be cost effective; we have only spent about half of that on capital costs of the RE equipment.
Design, Installation, electronics, electrical, power electronics, mechanical engineering, builder, structural engineering, solar monkey, Research and development, general dogsbody. ME !!! hahahahaha!
