On the tech plate of my JA solar panels there is an OC of 40.87v and +/- 2% for the open circuit voltage. That takes me up to a possible 41.687v OC using the +2%.

Going on the Trina 400W panel figures with an OC of 41.2V it looks as if i could fit a set of three of those? Or do I have something else to worry about> :o

Another 1200W of panels is such a nice round figure. :D

Thoughts?

New PB, 4.9kW on the solaredge & 3.2kW on the Victron. Lasted about 1.5 seconds right enough, 8.1kW,

Best check Victron datasheet, which model is it?

It's well within spec, I was more grooving on the idea of the sunlight hitting different angled strings on various roofs. I've tracked down on the thin pickings
available some Canadian 375w panels that will work OK. I already have varying panels on this system, had forgot that!

At the moment I have the following on the Victron system
9 of 325W 41.04 oc (3 strings of 3)
3 of 325W 40.87 oc (single string of 3)
I wish to add 3 of 375w 41.04 oc (or similar)(single string of 3)
Add all that together and its 5,025W. Divide that by the lowest voltage (114.5v) recorded by the Victron unit and we are at 43.8A. Easily within spec of the 60A charge controller and 4mm PV cable? Bear in mind I don't approach this way of thinking naturally. I always go 'piano piano' so nothing sneaks up on me. I will upgrade the outdoor joining box and its internals where all the strings come together to a more professional stramash as well. :P

Is that Victron charging the Pylontechs? .... so adding another charger could complicate things

Yes, the Victron charges the Pylontechs, adding pv to existing system.

Stan wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 7:36 pm Currently I have 2.5kWp of grid-tied PV Joeboy. This additional 1kWp is my so-called plug-in solar. I already have a spare 2.5kW used inverter sitting on a shelf, just in case of a failure. I’ve bought the DC cables and a DC disconnection switch. This system will be fed into the dedicated circuit feeding the shed, in the shed and via a fused double pole switch (no plug).
So I’m busy knocking out dexion frames to sit on the ground and to mount the panels at 30 degrees to horizontal.
The JA495 is designed to be supported at mid length on a horizontal tracker which is quite some call but they were the cheapest Bimble panel at 28p/Watt including VAT. I will be supporting them with less bending load on their frames.
Sounds like a nice project. Nice to see someone else confirming the £/Wp of the panels I’m looking at compare favourably.

What is the startup voltage of the inverter you’re intending to use?

I’d be grateful to see some pictures of your installation…
Had a quote for 3 of 400W Trina Vertex S panel, coming in at 26.63p per kWp incl vat. Delivery is absolutely killer though this far North. Basically the price of another panel! :(
That's the price though from South to North, giving my local electrical factor a chance to quote before dropping the hammer. :D

Nothing back from local electrical factors for a quote,so ordered through Grant at Bimble while the getting was good. He tells me that the supplier has 4.5 pallets of these 400W Trina Vertex S panels just in if anyone is looking. I only have space for three panels so plenty remaining. Excited! :)

I had been going to use Renusol rail system again but wondered if anyone has any other go to rails systems/shops they use, Will have to source concrete tile hangers too for the rails. Looks like I won't get 3 in a row on this install. Two in portrait and one in landscape i think. Will at least match the hot tub set! Feeling like a grown up now 10kWp, come a long way! :D
