Broken CT clamp

#1

Post by Swwils »

I recently had my consumer unit changed and my lux power inverter CT clamp got a cracked CT which has now broken half of the half core off.l and hence has become a bit inaccurate.

Does anyone know anything about CT clamps? Can I source a spare?

As far as I know it uses a 1000:1 100A 100ma style clamp. But the manual suggests it also accepts 3000:1 clamps. I haven't been able to find a details specification online.

I am assuming the plastic clip and/or hinge has been broken. But if you can hold the two halves of the core in good alignment with strong tape or similar I would expect it to work OK. Farnell have a good selection of CTs on their web site. Important to know if the one you have got incorporates a load resistor (=US burden resistor) or not, you already know what the turns ratio is, those are the main things.

Hello,

Unfortunately it's not the plastic it's the core itself that's cracked.

I have been trying to find a suitable CT clamp but Farnel don't stock a 1000:1 or 3000:1 as far as I have been able to see.

Hopefully my installer has a spare knocking around.

Having said this other EU countries get a p1 port on their smart meters themselves to get this data - UK ones have it all disabled at factory.
