A brilliant if sometimes controversial mind, if only we had taken on board his warnings fifty years ago.

Re: RIP James Lovelock
Indeed, I have read all of his books over the years and was just re reading the vanishing face of Gaia. He was right on the button and have been preparing for the worst for the last 50 years, which now seems upon us (less than 1 mm of rain this month).

Re: RIP James Lovelock
I first heard of James Lovelock not long after I started work, as we had a subscription to New Scientist at work and I was fascinated by an article he wrote setting out his Gaia hypothesis. I then got interested in computers and like many was fascinated by Daisyworld and that then led to me looking more into the Gaia hypothesis and realising that it made far more sense than anything else I'd read. Changed my view of the world without a shadow of doubt and has influenced much of what we've been doing over the past 30 years to reduce our impact on the planet.
I had the good fortune to meet James Lovelock once, completely by accident. I was out walking locally and just bumped into him. I had no idea at the time that he was as old as he was, he must have been in his 80s then yet seemed to me to be not much older than me.
