I had my eyes done 20 years ago while living in the US. One eye was Lasik, one was PRK, due to thinness of the corneas.

Being the US, I was able to look at the history of the various surgeons and basically chose the one who had the lowest issue rate and she was also the consultant corneal surgeon for the state we were in and anyone who had problems from other surgeons would be referred to her.

My left eye is still as sharp as the day it was done, my right eye has dropped a little in recent years and I wear a 1.25D contact lens in that one. Still need glasses for reading/computer work but distance vision is great.

As someone who was -7.4/-8D prior to surgery, it was like being born again and one of the best things I've ever spent money on. Doing your research on who you get to operate is wise, you don't get a second chance really.

Laser treatment sounds good but I've been having real problems with my eyes over the last 2 years and my optician says I am one of 3 of his patients where he is seeing things that he has never seen before. I started having to have prisms in my glasses which got stronger and stronger but then the last time I went he was amazed that I no longer needed them at all. The power of my eyes also seems to be changing all the time. I was referred to the Long Covid clinic in April and am due to be assessed further by a multidisciplinary team of very senior doctors and clinicians, so hope they can get to the bottom of what's going on.

I'm just happy that you haven't announced it as a Groupon deal joeboy! 😉,

The nhs bill pick up for some literal "cosmetic butchers" is racking up annually with no chance of getting them stopped (being abroad) nor monies for the corrective ops the bus has to soak up.

You are braver than me, I'd need putting under & fighting with teeth n fists all the way.

I had laser treatment on my eyes with LASEK 20+ years ago. Eye correction was miraculess but I suffered from severe dry eyes for several years. My corneal epithelium ripped off twice and I used to have a ritual of many different types of eye lubricants, especially at night.

Today its much better but I still use some lubricant occasionally, my optician says he can’t even tell I have had laser treatment but he said dry eye was a common side effect. I still have near perfect distance vision but middle age has meant glass wearing has returned for close up stuff.

The eye surgery company I used did a discount if you booked via EBay, so it became a joke amongst my work colleagues that I bought my eyes off of EBay.

I know many people who have had cataract treatment with lens replacement and have not had any trouble. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

Despite the multiple.brain injuries in low double figures when I stopped counting, my eyesight remains good, however dry eye, styes, etc have really taken their toll on my vision ..lockdown solution forget it, adding to problems, unfortunately, self inflicted aspects of falling foul of mountains since I was a kid, after all the problems of the past 3 years+ I don't know whether I'd add it to the list of chances i'd take (plus medication) .as soon as I lie down my vision goes to pot & my eyes dry as _*fudge* ..I personally could not flip the coin of possible consequences because I'd be concluding myself should an already debilitating lifestyle be curtailed further. ..I'd be too damn angry, & I've had 3+ decades to come to terms with my "life changes"

As with any surgery you have to weigh it up as to worst case scenario, which can be exassipated by living in the countryside, so you're lucky you have made your money & are comfortable, unfortunately I got screwed over at 17 working for govt & a nigh on impossible slog since & situation I could not afford a screw up from, I had my driving license surrender in my teens, now in my 50's I've lived & lost as a result, ..check your insurance coverage now before you leap because it's a long slog back of you have to surrender the skin you are comfortable in should they screw up.

Scrutinise the contract & liability as a matter of course.
