Perseid Meteor shower.

Well it'll make a change from rain showers, it should peak tonight , we have a nice clear sky at the moment and a young Moon that will set in a couple of hours so conditions are good for shooting stars. Hope you have good viewing too, the radiant is to the north east as it drops dark, after midnight is usually best.

10 minutes on a recliner in my back garden yielded one nice fast bright one. I think the best time is after midnight so I might have another look later.

Jupiter and Saturn are up too and can see the moons of Jupiter quite clearly with a pair of binoculars.

Sat out last night from about 11:30 till just after midnight and saw about 10 meteors and 5 satellites, will give it a go again tonight if it is clear.

I had another look for about 20 mins after midnight and saw 2 bright and 3 faint ones. If they are regular, I always give myself a target of at least 5 before calling it a day.

Like Fintray I saw 3 satellites, they seem to be becoming a lot more common now.

I spotted 4 although one may well have been a sporadic as it was quite off-track, my camera didn't spot any, again. In 30 odd years of trying my camera has never caught one yet It has though caught plenty of satellites, pesky things indeed are everywhere.

Went out onto the back balcony last night and saw two in 15 minutes. One was short lived but the other was an absolute cracker, streaked across for miles. I think I'll work that into my nightly schedule.

Sadly up here we went into cloud around sunset and missed out but today we have much needed rain for the fields and creatures and although we are only generating around 400 watts we are off the grid and it’s a calm quiet day which is very welcome

Saw loads of shooting stars on friday night, mind you we were at the CambrIdge folk fezzie and a fair amount of speckled hen was consumed, Seasick Steve was on form too

An annually recurring thread.

I saw 6 shooting stars from 11:30pm onwards for about 15 mins until some cloud stopped play. And this year I must have seen around 10 satellites, its ever increasing.
