Mazda MX-30EV sales

#1

Post by dan_b »

Oh dear.
Mazda sold a whopping 8 units of its MX-30EV in the entire US market in July.

8.

I have actually seen one of these on the roads near me in Twickenham. So they do exist. Mind you I've also seen a Toyota Mirai. So I guess the comparison is valid!

Even when it first launched it was overpriced for the range, or under-ranged for the price. Almost seemed like a compliance car, or an attempt by Mazda to not undermine their ICE vehicles.

Japan as a whole has completely mucked up the shift to BEV's, despite an excellent start with the HEV's and PHEV's. Nissan's Leaf isn't great by today's standards, but was decent at the start, then they failed to upgrade the batteries with active temp management. Hopefully the Ariya will do better, and get better support.

If they don't get into gear soon, then China will (eyes on BYD) will happily sell BEV's across Asia.

Mazda mx5 as an electric revival would be fun. Imho, they shifted a lot of those back in the day.

So few units though!? ..what the hell are they doing?

Totally agree Gus, and coincidentally, someone on a MSE thread said similar about a month ago. Would make for an excellent BEV.

I don't pretend to know a lot about cars, especially convertibles, but perhaps a BEV derived chassis would make for a better/stronger basis for a light convertible, reduced scuttle shake, if that's the correct term?

Yeah, Nissan has “first mover disadvantage” with the Leaf. They made a revolutionary product and sold loads of units. They then failed to continue innovating while the rest of the industry marched past them.

And Toyota before them with the Prius…

3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Yup, resource bought a new gen leaf if they hadn't screwed the pooch in terms of cooling / charging lockout, that big lead & investment was criminally wasted!

On the subject of ev's..

I come across a thread like this for an Ev (mg in this instance) for an insight to how public perspective & misinformation is changing (or not)
WAY different to over here.

Plenty of tired old tropes still doing the rounds 😣
