Interesting article this morning, its beginning to feel like we as the public are being slowly prepared for the potential of load shedding this winter, never mind the struggle to pay for available power!

Thats going to come as a horrible shock to many although I suspect the majority on here are able to remember the 3 day week and black outs of the 1970's (just!)

Time to get the box of candles out from the back of the stairs cupboard and get the board games out to fil those long dark evenings  you can always trust governments to progress us - generally its backwards but they will argue thats still progress of a kind........

I may yet fallback to WBS2 in the cabin and the meager daily charge from the home wind turbine into the 12V LB for lighting. Sounds good to me!

I remember mince sandwiches with the mince being cooked on a camping stove n the 70's. It was an adventure. Also got multiple camping gas cylinders in the Bongo. All I need now is the Sisterwives and a x-bow. :)

I must get my gallon can refilled with paraffin too, I can't imagine domestic gas going off (too much trouble to flush appliances before relighting) but the electricity might well fail. I don't think many places sell paraffin nowadays.

In the the 70's we had an "Aladdin" lamp with a mantle, I kept it ready but when I last checked it found that the full reservior had evaporated off! Haven't got a pressure lamp, but I do have the Camping gaz lamp that I inherited from my dad, plus a couple of fresh / spare cylinders.

Its woeful that they (successive governments of all colours) have progressed the nation back 50 + years.

I hope it doesn't come to load shedding but even without that spectre there will be many resorting to candles and such to both light and heat their homes and that means a increase risk of house fires. Winter of discontent anyone ?

I can see this becoming a huge topic of conversation and concern across the UK and over on the continent and lets face it, no matter how cold we think it is inland continental Europe gets a hell of a lot colder in winter!

I may have to invest in some of those chinese lantern turbines - we get lots of wind up here and all of a sudden those 50Wh seem really important

I haven't seen paraffin on sale for ages! it must still be available though? Trouble with all paraffin burning in the house though is all the water vapour it produces. Used to love the smell in the house though :D anyone still got a superser

Off the back of the 12V lighting thought I bought 3 of these on a 3 for 4 offer. Handy to have around.

I remember my Dad buying some camping gaz stoves but not realising you had to unscrew the burner before you put the gas cartridge in.
