Fell short in required rail length by 190mm. Hunted in the scrapbox and found a nice bit of 25mm thick wall mild steel Box section. Slots in beautifully. Will triple bolt each end and hammerite spray.

Always a good strategy to keep stuff for those just in case times.

Tesla Powerwall 2
100 x 47mm Navitron tubes (still being installed!) Now likely to be removed for more PV.

Looking good so far! Hope it isn't too windy!
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger
(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Took you advice on the galvanic corrosion and sprayed the inside of the rail and extension piece. Hope to get the rails up today and the panels tomorrow.

My go-to for galvanic corrosion prevention for decades now has been Duralac. Never yet had any corrosion problems when coating mating surfaces with the stuff. It doesn't really harden fully, so tends to provide a good seal against moisture getting in, in addition to the natural protection it provides to any dissimilar metal joint. I always keep a tube of the stuff handy, usually get it from these people: https://shop4fasteners.co.uk/duralac-jo ... pound.html

That's a good to.know. I've went with the bitsa approach this time although I did have to shell out 90p for M6 set screws x40mm & nylocs.Oldgreybeard wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 2:08 pm My go-to for galvanic corrosion prevention for decades now has been Duralac. Coffee break then I'll get back up and fit the rails leaving panel disconnection and move for tomorrow. I added a couple of drainpipes in the aluminium bottom. This extension piece should outlive me!

Re: Second system extension extension.
My definition of whether a job is good enough now is whether it will last longer than I will. As the years go by this makes the projected life requirement of any job shorter and shorter . . .

Ah, but do you maintain standards regardless? Going on your posts, I'd think you do.Oldgreybeard wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 3:04 pm My definition of whether a job is good enough now is whether it will last longer than I will. The rails are up, easypeasy. Will separate out the groundmount later this evening or first thing tomorrow, weather allowing. Plan is to have it up and outputting by 10am.
Simple Y connector (cheers Nowty & Gus) into the outgoing lines from the upper string and we'll be at max generation.
In saying that, across the lunchtime crazy hour today we were generating well!
