Bear in mind the 3rd recall is now in place.
GM are bickering with LG as to who coughs up the costs for an as yet "unproven finger pointing blame game" neither want to upset investor dividends & GM aren't exactly keen on the EV in general. (estimated 800 million US dollars initially now a billion & counting)
LG on the other hand batteries are their game, used very successfully elsewhere.
As there were "improved" batteries for 2020 onward chevy bolt vehicles not affected by the recall, & the car name is now "damned to hell from an american perspective" is now the time to buy a car you intended to drive till you dropped anyway? ..might this be an opportunity for some who can shrug & say "don't care" ?
The post 2020 battery update "may" however suffer a a torn anode tube & a folded separator.
LG has lost over 6 billion on its market value in the meantime.
Obviously, regardless of cost for "fixed again" Volts the second hand market will be low, & maybe your home insurance company may insist it is forever parked outside, just in case, but for city dwellers who maybe street park anyway, it may prove a bargain if deemed "junk" by the manufacturer & the public.
How much of a hit will this affect prices? there are examples of "buy back" to scare people further.
GM cannot go backward & scrap EV as a product for sale, unless they recall store & trash all the vehicles to save face then that leaves a car with low consumer confidence & reflected value.
