There is an upsurge of interest (& panic, obviously) a guy who popped up on my damned google algo-feed on my phone put together a starter kit of solar, a couple of small batts & a cheapo Chinese usb inverter & got several 100,000 views in a few days (he had to do a quick follow up of where he went wrong for safeties sake) ..but it shows folk are seeking, but yes a video on YouTube also gets plenty of last sunglasses asking to be spoon fed.

No pal,I do it all word of mouth. I don't play well with others and have negative tolerance for eejits or politics of any kind which i dont hide. I am on a couple of FB energy groups and will help someone out if I can but again it's 1 to 1 if they come across well. Sounds arrogant as I re-read it but there's just not enough time in the day or a lifespan. I like this place and also green living forum.
The beauty of the Internet is that folk can bring themselves up to a decent basic level of understanding on their own and hopefully get a working handle on the implications. Once they've done that and answered the questions at The Bridge of Death I'll invest time.

The theme I see over and over again form those who’ve switch (all or part) from gas to electric heat is that the gas boiler was clearly less efficient than imagined. Obviously electric only works with the CoP of a heat pump or with cheap-rate electric because electric is so much more expensive than gas.
Convincing those who’re not ready to be convinced is a fruitless endeavour.

Moved a 2.55kW unit from a living room at the edge of the house to smack bang in the centre of the house. Tomorrow I'll begin installing the extra storage units, another 4.25kW of storage heaters adding a further 21.25kWh of stored energy potential. That will be as near as damn it 60kWh storage heater capacity which along with the WBS will completely replace gas for home heating.

Aye, I thought about that! Unlikely that they will all be on at the same time but ye never know! If anything I'd set up 5 hrs window for the main units and do 3&2 hour split across the remainder in the more remote rooms. Will be a new experience, looking forward to seeing it play out.

Where do you find all these second-hand storage heaters ?
I've never ever seen anything like that on the sites I watch - that said I was very fortunate to obtain a free SB1700 (might be SB1200) in the summer which will be a project early next year.

Now then Moxi, that's a hell of a question!
The true answer is SWMBO sources them online. They are not all free, I paid £250 for a batch of five a few years back. Got a single for free a couple of years ago and then very fortunately four for a tenner the other day. There's quite a lot of time goes into sourcing them. Just testing a triple storage with instant heating elements x 2. This one goes into that front living room and is the first power capacity upgrade of the year (850W) as yesterday was a swap around of existing units in home.

I thought that would be the case- I guess that storage heaters were never a big trend around here in Northwest Wales and therefore the second-hand market and availability is modest to non-existent.

You've just got to keep looking on ebay, sooner or later one will turn up not far from you and sometimes they go for very little money as no one wants to post them.
Also worth noting a test step during install. I check power to the storage element connections and once I have unit in place, back row of storage bricks and elements in place I fire it up to see the load. In this case 2.8kW which is close enough when accounting for moisture and meter inaccuracy. Better this way than building the whole unit and there's a faulty element. Keep looking Moxi, they will show up.
