Storage Heaters
Re: Storage Heaters
I think this is just a quick polar blast. It’ll warm up again from tomorrow.
Although I’m usually a “heating off unit November” kind of guy, I’ve set the A2A to come on from 0600-0629 as a test run for its noise levels and timer function. (I have 0230-0630 cheap slot remember). I’ll let you know how it goes!

12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger
(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Re: Storage Heaters
10 degs outdoors and 19.8 degs inside at 8am. The SH's are at between 1-3 output boost so should be emitting heat the whole day. I also suspect that they will take less time to charge and emit in the coming days due to retained heat within themselves and the fabric of the house itself.
76kWh to fully charge stack, heat House, fully heat HWT and put 80 miles on the EV. That is £4.18. Made 95p fit & £1.34 at WT1.
That whole run and all its benefits cost me £1.89.
By comparison, I would have burned about 100kWh of gas alone in that single day to heat home and HWT at this time of year costing me £6.00 before any discounts and no miles for the EV.
SWMBO says big thumbs up for the experiment, so that's a win.
Edit- when I typed the above I was in bed and SWMBO was making a cuppa. I am up and about now. WOW, this is a new experience, a much more subtle form of heating than our GCH. Every corner of the house is at 19.8 degs, even the rooms that have no SH in them. It has just silently brought the whole house up to temp while we were sleeping. No peaks, no hot or coldspots, just a nice even temperature throughout. Will see how it goes through the day. Hopefully won't climb too high, I'm impressed.
Also worth mentioning that WBS1 and its storage capacity are involved in this no gas adventure.

Re: Storage Heaters
The Hive unit in centre of house is sitting at a fantastic 21.3 degs, upstairs is 19.3 degs and the big room with wbs1 in in is a very toasty 23.9 with doors open to the rest of the house. The storage heaters are continuing to emit and swmbo is very happy. The WBS1 storage system is working well and just hitting its stride.

Re: Storage Heaters
Dropped below freezing here overnight, (just) in Dorset. My wife went out about 07:30 and had to de-ice the car windscreen, then had the tyre pressure warning light come on (just because of the cold). When I got up around 08:00 it was a bit warmer, the outside thermometer was showing 6.8°C. Been a good day for PV, though, charged the car back up for free after this morning's 50 mile round trip. Total generation today has been 29kWh so far, not bad given there's been a bit of cloud about.
25 off 250W Perlight solar panels, installed 2014, with a 6kW PowerOne inverter, about 6,000kWh/year generated

Didn't notice as the house is still sitting at around 22 deg C. No heating on yet - it's only mid September , just very thick walls with loads of thermal mass - you just can't beat it for temperature stability.

Wow, nothing like that up here! The thermal mass around the WBS is really outputting now, wish I had more thermal mass in the building, ah well!

Set up tonight to the best of my abilities to simulate last nights run. Interested to see the grid consumption figure.

Re: Storage Heaters
Tonight the load is 20.42kWh with downstairs at 21.8 degs and upstairs temp at 20.7 degs, HWT & EV doing their thing. Good to see that the system is overmatching the environment at no effort while 10 degs outdoors. Strong potential for the Winter temps and opening the SH's up.

Re: Storage Heaters
Bit bigger and hotter than Joe’s SH, but, I suppose, using the same principle of storing cheap rate energy.

Presume it could be adapted to the domestic setting as a water heater - suppose the Tepeo Zeb is using this approach.

Excellent, If only they would decouple RE from the fuel costing hierarchy and live price it.Bugtownboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 9:42 am Bit bigger and hotter than Joe’s SH, but, I suppose, using the same principle of storing cheap rate energy.

The SH's worked so well that we have knocked the last hour charging off across them all and completely shut down the bedroom unit.
Their time will come, just not yet. Total victory on the test!
