Just checked and I bought ten sets of filters last year (10 x G4 plus 10 x F7) for £288.04, including VAT and delivery, so £28 per set. Next time I probably won't buy any of the G4 filters, as we're getting through them at about half the rate of the F7 filters.Countrypaul wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 7:16 pm I may well try them when I use up my last set. Ours has a G4 and an F7 on the fresh air intake, with a G4 on the exhaust, the official wrbsite wants £75 +VAT £15 + delivery £10 per set supposedly twice a year, the finnish place supplied 3 sets for around £100. Re: Storage Heaters
Just scored a pair of storage heaters on ebay.. an XL24 (3.4kw) and an XL12 (1.7kw) for £45. Not quite the bargain of Joeboy's 4 for a tenner but its a decent start for me I think!
Hoping that these will replace the GCH in the kitchen and my office

Re: Storage Heaters
I paid £600 for my little 1kW one. Seems ridiculous for such a simple device.

Re: Storage Heaters
It does, when you think that most of the weight is really rust . . .

Re: Storage Heaters
Seems a touch high right enough Stinsy. My last set I bought was a tenner for a 1.7kW unit which was missing its rear mounting bracket but I was happy to get the bricks and elements along with two fully functional 850W units for that Tenner...
Let's call it a fiver for a 850W unit and £15 for a secondhand Hive plug (which I collected on Friday). With the Hive plug I am distance automated, can set timers and also 'scenes'.
Not sure what I'd need or get beyond that but willing to listen? 'rust' seems harsh, do these fancier units not slave back to some sort of app and charge on/off weather depending? That's a learning curve for me as not automated beyond timers and phone control here? It is handy to be able to switch the SH's on from Turkey when we are coming home and I like the 'scenes', simple enough to set up, press button in good RE weather and bring a specific SH for 2 hours, nice, simple, effective. Down to 18.7kW load now from 21.4kW peak the other night on full on test. Tails are mildly warm only. A lot of that (11kW is HWT, EV and stack charging).

Re: Storage Heaters
Sorry, it was an oblique reference to the feolite bricks, which are really iron oxide, a.k.a. rust.

Re: Storage Heaters
Congratulations! They are excellent simple devices that just silently work. At the moment as the temps are climbing back up a little I am running mine with output boost full shut and relying on design leakage(or flaw) to heat the space. It's working very well. So much so that I've shut a couple off from charging tonight and cut off the last hours charging on the remainder. That 3.4kW unit is going to be mighty! Only advice I can give on that is to position it as central as possible in the house. It made quite a difference for us bringing our largest unit to middle of house.

Re: Storage Heaters
We were 'offered' a couple of Quantum storage heater, big units but over £300 per 2nd hand. I had a look, saw the control gear on the side(or might have been top) and thought 'bloody emperors new clothes, sticking Quantum on it won't fool me, nah' and kindly declined the offer. That was our scenario though and we have a lot of nooks n crannies to hide the older units we like within. Would be interested to hear from other owners of SH's of all types? Pro's, con's, regrets or elation?Joeboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 10:33 pmNah man, don't stress but he's already £600 deep!Oldgreybeard wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 10:30 pmSorry, it was an oblique reference to the feolite bricks, which are really iron oxide, a.k.a. rust.

Re: Storage Heaters
I wanted one for “The Shed” (garden office). I had a small space to squeeze it into and and something old and yellow would have looked odd against the white-painted walls. I just couldn’t find anything on eBay within an hours drive. Additionally, being on the 2030-0030 cheap period at the time I wanted a HHR (high heat retention) model.
I went for a Quantum. If you remember the complex technology that decided how much to charge the SH fought against me to the point where I circumvented it. The discharge control really is very good, it doesn’t leak much heat until needed, and then carefully controls the output. I’m now on the 0230-0630 cheap period so I expect it to work even better this year.
If you’re heating living space in your home and you want to charge for 4hrs and release the heat over the other 20hrs then you need a much simpler device.
I’ve just looked on eBay and the closest SH currently for sale is a 4hr round trip…
