I charged the car last night but don't have a clue what the electricity cost. Quite why they couldn't just publish the new tariffs that applied from midnight I just don't know.

Wasn't there some ruling about informing customers of actual price increases well in advance of implementing them so the customer has a chance to change before the increase? I thought that resulted in some uninformed custoers in the past being able to claim that the original price was till in effect unti the notification period expired - is hat not the case?

I thought so, have a feeling it came up here back in April, when some suppliers were a bit late in notifying customers of the changes then. No idea what's going on at the moment, I've been unable to find any confirmed new tariffs from midnight last night (so including the price increase and the effect of the new cap) from any supplier. Some have published (in a very hidden way!) tariffs from 1st October, but all carry a "not including the government price cap" type warning, so they may as well not bother publishing them.

I checked Bulb yesterday. Their standard variable Economy 7 tariff from on their website hasn't changed since before the price cap was announced, so I've assumed that either they haven't yet accounted for the increase or they may be holding prices at the same rate as they have been all summer.

Not often I have a good word to say about Scottish Power but they did email a link to their new prices on Thursday 22nd, and it wasn't much more painful than usual to enter yesterday's readings either. And (as I wrote a week ago) the good news is:

"Daytime units are up from 35 to 45p, night-time units are down from 16p to 11. This is great for battery system users, so perhaps worth hanging fire until October 1."

So now the day has come it will be interesting to see what recommendations the switching service switchd have to make.

Their only Economy 7 tariff here seems to be this standard variable rate one: https://www2.scottishpower.co.uk/tariff ... ution=e1s3

Standing Charge 44.50p per day
Unit rate (Day) 63.529p per kWh
Unit rate (Night) 29.487p per kWh

I think I'll hold tight at those prices and wait a bit longer to see what happens with other suppliers. I rather suspect that the only way to get a decent Economy 7 tariff is going to be to spend hours on the phone to different suppliers. I started doing that last week, but lost the will to live whilst waiting for any of them the answer their phones. Best to wait for the panic to die down a bit, perhaps.

Just phoned Octopus this morning to switch. Rates quoted with energy cap

Night 15.17
Day 43.31
Standing charge 51.09

So day rate has gone up from last week's quote of 30.67 but night rate has gone down from 21.61. I'm just phoning to order another couple of Pylontech batteries to add to the stack and hopefully manage as much as possible on night rate power.
6kw PV (24 x REC Solar AS REC 250PE)
Clausius 5-25kw GSHP
Luxpower Squirrel Pod
Pylontech 21kwh
Eddi Diverter
250l hot water tank with 2 immersions
2 x Woodwarm stoves
7 acres of old coppice woodland
Ripple Kirk Hill 3.8kw
Ripple Derril Water 3.963 kW
