Wind has been doing just under 20GW on Energy Numbers for hours but no record.

On the smaller scale, I'm more than happy with hour after hour of 95% WT1 output. It certainly adds up!

Re: UK Wind Record
Am I right that increases in record peak generation will increasingly be determined not by wind power capacity, but by grid capacity and demand? i.e. we will increasingly be prevented from reaching new peaks by hitting the limits of the latter?
And if so, should we change our focus to other records (which I think are arguably more important anyway) such as highest daily wind power generation? Not nearly as easy to track of course...
A metric I already like to track is average daily wind power generation on gridwatch.co.uk. At 6.764GW for the current year, it is already up 20% on last year.
I'd track 'renewables output' overall, but I'm not keen on how that includes biomass...

Re: UK Wind Record
Yes, we normally only get the record in the winter months when the demand is high enough to prevent curtailment. The demand also varies depending whether we are importing or exporting on the interconnectors. There are also other factors like keeping enough gas running for grid stability.GarethC wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 5:10 pm Am I right that increases in record peak generation will increasingly be determined not by wind power capacity, but by grid capacity and demand? i.e. we will increasingly be prevented from reaching new peaks by hitting the limits of the latter?

Re: UK Wind Record
Wind is banging out just under 20GW again on Energy Numbers and there is enough wind resource to get very close to a record again. We are exporting 4.7GW at the moment so will be watching around 6pm.

Re: UK Wind Record
Still stayed under 20GW again, but we must be breaking some sort of sustained wind record over the past several days.

Re: UK Wind Record
Gridwatch says wind averaged 14.88GW today (and only a GW or so less than that yesterday).
Do wish these records were easily available. Maybe we should ask Andrew to add to his website.

Re: UK Wind Record
I think they are curtailing because the transmission lines from Scotland and North England are at max. So we will just have to wait until the Eastern DC link is done.
