My hope is that the other 3 strings will output to their max as conditions dictate and the 4th deck string will come 'online' once voltage from it is high enough to push into the JB where the other three more favoured strings will already be outputting?
Your right, a shaded parallel string will not bring down other sunny parallel strings.

Correct. Parallel strings cannot bring down anything. It is only series panels that affect eachother. The purpose of the 4th string is to help out in overcast diffused lighting conditions so shading is less of an issue.

Thanks Lads, Always worth checking! This recent power cost increase certainly draws into focus the benefit of being as self sufficient as possible, especially in the shoulder months. Being realistic i'll see maybe 4 hours output from the 4th string. That's ok though, it's to the good.

Panels are cheap. It’s the installation and the other bits that cost the money. If you have the space, can make the mount yourself, and already have something to connect the panels too, it’s a no-brainier.

Aye, you are indeed on the ball, thank you. I have in some ways in this new life of retirement been struck by lazyitis. I am waiting to see what the new traffic lights are tomorrow and will leap into action thereafter on 2 fronts (fat ass on a lounger & fat solar in the can). Hopefully get string 4 in place soon.

Aye, that we do. I am thinking i'll build a wooden frame so I can have the frame on rear deck Wintertime and move and plug in again in Veg patch2 for the main season. Might make up a quick connect IP rated jumper box at the same time' if i can hunt down a couple of bulkhead mount MC4 connectors. Will take away the polarity issue in the following years.

Well there are temporary panels and temporary panels !

I do have 4 definite temporary panels, but these two shown below were temporary panels and were fitted slightly differently when they were temporary. But I only lost a bit of decking area by making them permanent, I screwed down a simple wooden frame through the decking joists for the bottom and they rest on another chamfered bit of wood at the top and are cable tied to hooks underneath so they wont move even in a storm.

The use of TIGOs has made all sorts of weird and wonderful string configurations possible.

That is pretty good for a minimal impact ground mount. Impressed. It will after Turkey trip for my install. I am a fan of less is more but will mount going on the direction of the scrap wood pile. :)
