Using a simple pyrolysis process and carbon-based electrodes, which help to improve the reactivity of sulphur and the reversibility of reactions between sulphur and sodium, the researchers claim their new battery offers four times the energy capacity of lithium-ion batteries and is far cheaper to produce.

This could be a game changer for storage.

I seem to remember a Fully Charged Show episode about Sodium-ion batteries from earlier in the year with a chemistry developed at Sheffield Uni which is already in commercial production for stationary storage?

The more ways we can make battery storage cost less, and from less controversial materials like Lithium and Cobalt the better!
