I've tried to decode how they count cycles, without any joy. My pack sometimes goes days without recording a cycle, then clocks up two or three cycles in a week. There must be some sort of algorithm in the BMS firmware that adds up the charge and discharge energy and does some sort of non-linear assessment as to what counts as a full cycle.

I'm keen on DIY rather than spending £50 for servtec but I'm can't find a good step-by-step description of how to make the cable. Do I need RS232 at all?

Or shall I just buy -->

NO! The 9 pin RS232 connector contains the electronics that convert from '232 serial to USB and handle all the USB "negotiation" stuff - not a proper technical description - I think it is called enumeration - but you get the idea. Easiest way is to do as Tinbum says, 232 to USB converter lead then get a 232 lead, chop off the end and fit a RJ45. Plug the two together, RJ45 in the Pylons and USB into the laptop.

Do I need a specific version of Batteryview for US3000C? I've connected the cables and checked the wiring couple times, so it looks ok, but it doesn't connect with my version (3.0.28).

Thats the latest version that I know of and should work OK.

Is there any specific procedure to connect laptop to battery or just plug-n-play without disconnecting batteries from inverter?

Just plug and play. Can you see the serial device ok on the computer? Can you select the com port ok in battery view?

It usually shows com4 but once showed com3. After trying to connect it throws : "after try, 0 times, time out for command".
