Looks like the electricity market is going haywire for pricing on 29th Dec- wholesale prices going very negative for a solid 8 hour period, and wind to be significantly curtailed as a result - with some CfD contracts being suspended! This is from the clever people at EnAppSys
Is anyone still on Octopus Agile? Wondering what the price/kWh will be?

Am I alone in thinking this is a pretty mad system?
The level of apparent instability does worry me, it seems more akin to the crazy days of "barrow boys" skewing markets during the worst times in the virtually unregulated financial markets around 40 years ago.
Surely energy, and energy pricing, needs to be considered as an essential service, like clean drinking water, doesn't it?
Perhaps I'm just an old fashioned atheist Guardianista though . . .

No-one thought we would base 60% + of our generation on something that only delivers 20% of demand.
Re: Wholesale prices tomorrow tonight (29th Dec)
It’s the normal low demand and high wind situation.
Gas CCGT down to under 2.5GW at 8PM in winter, we should be having a few free power hours in the wee hours to help stabilise the system.

Got to keep those furnaces hot as we will need them in a couple of days when the wind suddenly drops again.
