How do I.. remove this drain cover!?

#1

Post by Mr Gus »

For the life of me I cannot remember.

4 brass? screws securing lid. oblong, heavy, awkward.
(conservatory, tiled over, nasty plastic tile trim) some cracking where forced up last time, not keen to do that again)!!

Last off maybe 10 years ago

Blocked drain so needs water & rodding asap, likely as bad as last time, (suspect new baby in street contributed to this & we are the back up point of a loop.

I have a mains tap stopcock combi lifter key, but that didnt shift it last time, think it was screwdriver leverage (thus damage to tile)
Screw holes are circular, not the "key lift" type..

Cheers lads.

You really do need to upload a photo...
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

yeah tried the rubber mallet, its the lift thats awkward as its non standard grab points.
Will look at screwfix. ..ouch 50+ quid.

Established there is a few mm lift to side of screws, ...a tent peg helped there.
Some on ebay for £3.99 each singular, will order & resume play imminently.

Alt suggestions welcome, dont want to damage tiles further, wife cannot get the sometimes you have to crack eggs scenario.

It may have been originally, however the Dodgey & Dangerous DIY reverend who lived here previously wired up the extension with bellwire, so anything is possible (these are slot screw removal, then there is a few mm to the side of the recess, as gauged by tent peg testing. I will use copper grease when reinserting them.

After that stick em on a wall hook with a note nearby.

This variety of hook are less favoured, thought i was going to have to dremel a d-shape pair, job delayed by 4 days, date not use thw washing machine in meantime.

Another good reason to have isoprop spray to hand!

Allan key screws, to provide the tightness onto the rubber seal.
Large sucker

To lift the panel, also tapping edge of seal with hammer to assist in breaking seal.

Never thought I'd see the day when I was looking forward to diy-fixing household effluent, getting old, & stupider. 💩
