Nice to see one of our very own esteemed members in that article
Shame it's a bit of a fluff article but anything that raises heat pump awareness can't be bad.

Re: Heat pump geeks... anyone?
Compared to just simply saying its got performance optimsed monitoring? ..there's a headline the bbc would have simply ignored.
Look at the proximity of that to the neighbours.. doubt that falls within planning legislation. (video piece, 60 second explainer)
Also, why are any media pieces so goddamned shonky in terms of fact & context, missing out completely on "not got wet rads? ..no problem, forced air versions are the other ashp option" . .all ..the ...goddamn ..time!
edit: stuffed in semi hidden at the end rather than say 2 types available.
Is it a preference for factusl bias or factual ineptitude?
BBC crapshoot.

Re: Heat pump geeks... anyone?
Looks like 1m from the boundary to me so its compliant, but I know what you mean as its a big one.
I like the video, even if he did release some methane into the atmosphere.

Ha ha I wasn't going to mention the damage he did while showing us the benefits but it was sharp inhalation moment followed by a shake of the head, ohh BBC!

Re: Heat pump geeks... anyone?
All parts of the air source heat pump must be at least one metre from the property boundary.

Near enough.

Bad nowty
Serious question, the tiled surround plinth/ foundation is part of the installation, could / should that affect your / any measurements?
..I must remember to mutter "ladder storage & cat shade provision, not ground mount solar" at this stage

Re: Heat pump geeks... anyone?
The foundation slabs were already there because they were for a tall tool store which I had to move elsewhere to make room for the HP. In my defence the measurement is to the boundary fence which is my fence, so I assume there is another 3 or 4 cm to the actual boundary.

Re: Heat pump geeks... anyone?
I'm querying stuff because interpretation of regs & council box tickers differ. (to be clear)
Personally, to me a slab could potentially be classified as a "pre-install" element, or repurposed, (covered by the term "Happenstance") & the install is the body of the mechanicals put in place, but every build / project inspector likely has different perspective & flexibility.
Remember the term folks it might come in useful when bodgineering is queried.
