Just queues of petrol cars blocking up everything ...... but remember, BEV's aren't much use, because not everyone can charge from home ................... ROFLMAO.

She went this morning, about 6.30am, but it was absolutely fine, no queues ........ the petrol stations are closed!

Staff inside said they had hardly any customers yesterday as nobody could get in.

Any time the temperature is below 7℃ or the road is wet you're better off on winter tyres. However the difference is difficult to notice in ordinary driving conditions. I live up a small hill, only 350m above sea level but we get snow when nearby areas don't, and sometimes it is deep enough to require shovelling.

I've also been on the M6 in conditions where cars are pirouetting left and right and lorries are jackknifing in front of us, it felt like bing in a movie but no one hit us and it felt like driving on normal dry tarmac.

I'm a big fan of Nokian WRD3 but have tried a few.

I'm also evangelical about the economics of winter tyres. IE "they don't cost you anything". You can buy a used set of OEM alloys pretty cheaply on eBay, then you can (hopefully) sell them for a similar price when you're done with the car, and only one set of tyres is wearing out at a time... Net cost = Zero!

That's exactly what I did and do. I use Goodyear Ultragrip. Thankfully I bought a few more before Brexit as they seem harder to get now. One thing i do find is the Ultragrip wear really evenly but the summer tyres wear unevenly for some reason on both cars.

Petrol station chaos worsened by motorists filling up with wrong fuel
More than five times as many people as usual in the UK put diesel in their petrol engine or vice versa

I thought they'd sorted the nozzles so you could no longer do that?

Darwinism.

Allegedly these people are deemed attentive enough to drive by means of qualification?

rfid on the filler cap area could easily solve this ..unless people start to break things associated with the mechanics of "wrong pump NO FILL" in blind (stupid) frustration.

Never underestimate the ability of stupid people to do stupid things . . .

My wife's off to see her mother in a couple of days, a trip she's done a couple of times since we went to an all EV household, but popped her head around my study door a few minutes ago to tell me that there were some new Gridserve rapids up and running at Exeter services now, giving her a fifth en route charging option (not that she needs it, she could just about get down there and back on one charge the way she drives).

Meanwhile, I was fretting about the problems with our recent supplier switch, which has meant that we've been put on an interim tariff until the end of December (not something I was expecting at all), and that's doubled the cost of what I was expecting to pay for home charging. Then I thought to actually check the price difference, and it's still only around 4.7p/mile, which is around 1/3rd the price I'd have been paying if we both still had ICE cars.

Must admit, it is comforting to know that both cars are sat on the drive and able to do a short notice trip of a couple of hundred miles or more, without having to worry about fuel shortages.

I must admit to "ensuring" our daughter knows how to use a plastic 5 litre petrol can, how to hold, pour & what the colours mean, plus the essential, make sure the nozzle is seated correctly, ..likely many parents "think" this is the duty of the driving instructor nowadays!?

When my recently widowed mum got a car in the late 70's I learnt how to jack, remove & replace a wheel, I was around 9 years old.
(something my daughter needs to learn but will, regardless of the fact that her first car does not have room for a spare tyre)

All part of motoring care to get you there safely.
I was offered £5 by someone whose car tyre was flat (having pointed it out) which I naturally refused, preparedness, luck, & the kindness of the fellow traveller to help you out, ..something a turn of phrase that needs teaching.

Problem is if they then went on to have an accident they would probably try to sue you by saying the accident was your fault somehow. :o
