Re: HPC
I know there's a LOT more to a nuclear power station than just the reactor, but it's nuts that a 1.6 GW reactor weighs the same as the nacelle for a 15MW turbine, or 1/10 of the weight of a 15MW turbine floating foundation.
It's seriously impressive.

Re: HPC
but it's just the bottom of the pressure vessel. Didn't someone show us a picture of a PWR with the top off, the core craned out of the way and 2 blokes looking in? It's just a big tin can!
Anyway, I'm pleased that it did as much of its journey as possible by water, including the final stage up a river which people have probably forgotten is navigable. A bit like the airbus wings going down the Dee https://www.deeside.com/airbus-could-be ... mbly-line/.

Energy density has always been a big thing for nuclear proponents vs renewables for sure. It is amazing how you can get so much power out of such a relatively small device. It's the stuff around it that takes up rather a lot of ground - but yes compare the size of (offshore) array you need for an equivalent of 3.2GW of wind turbines and that's a big area indeed.
