Removal of windows bloatware.. (wanted)
Still having problems with recently re-installed win 10 on laptop after wife got an apple.
Hp unit, which I keep forgetting to close down properly, (concerned for rebooting still) I'm guessing it ran out of memory?
After numerous attempts it started & opened, so thought its time to defrag the hard drive & get rid of annoying crap such as pop up sidebars full of "curated" vacuous news courtesy bing, type thing.
Locate & hand remove or something else?
Just managed to log on after 1hr, run AVG, ..which hung on a scan..
stopped scan, waiting for software to catch up.
cheers guys

I’m far from an Apple fanboy, but I’d never buy a windows laptop again what with all the viruses/bloatware etc.
Have you considered Ubuntu?

Maybe after pulling everything off this & reading about ubuntu for a few weeks, but usually desperation to just get back onto a basic functioning computer wins out.
I don't have these problems with a kindle, ..yet windows frequently melts, its only surfing web nothing heavy, but it can't handle more tha n a handful of windows open.

I'm typing this on an 8 year old MacBook. Still feels as nippy as when brand new. Battery still lasts an hour or so on the rare occasions it is used while not plugged in...Mr Gus wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 11:27 am Maybe after pulling everything off this & reading about ubuntu for a few weeks, but usually desperation to just get back onto a basic functioning computer wins out.

In Ubuntu everything takes effort and if you;re not used to a Unix-like CLI it probably isn't for you. But then Unix has always made complete sense to me and been utterly intuitive.

I use a 9yo HP laptop running W10. No problems with performance most of the time, but does slow down a little if I leave too many tabs open (do normally have over 100 open in Firefox!) Edge always seems slow espcially when chaging tabs, and tends to crash more frequently. The HD failed a couple of yrs back and I replaced it with an SSD - made a huge difference.

That's where the kindle has it, it manages to handle 40+ tabs open
Pc sellers just market your offering as 40 tab research capable & thats aout all I need to know when looking for a new bit of kit.
A simple pop up, logged every 15 mins as "resume research tabs" upon start up & a monthly reminder to sift & close inspection would do me nicely.
Stuff you discuss, look up_forget (life) & go back to.
For example, templar has finally burnt into my brain, most days but likely taken 6 years to recall it quickly.
I don't need msn news, a rotating daed sidebar of whats open? ..yes please.
