Tesla V4 Supercharger installed

Tesla's V4 Supercharger has been installed for the first time at a site in the Netherlands.

According to this, as well as having longer cables (presumably to allow for easier use by non-Tesla EVs if and when it goes open access), it also shows the electrical capabilities of the stall - ie 1000V and 615A - the maths is quite easy there. That's a big step up from the 400V architecture of current Teslas and a huge amount of future-proofing headroom for what ever battery configs and power deliveries come down the line from different manufacturers.

I don't think most realise the significance of this, Tesla opening (some for now) their superchargers up to all.

Compared to most other charging options, its a seamless experience of just plugging the car in. Also, as discussed, significantly cheaper that most other options, even at Motorway stops.

They can also build them for about half the cost of competitors (chargers themselves)

And they work!

I certainly picked up on it Niko not least because they are the nearest superchargers to areas we are likely to visit at distance:

Aberystwyth, Adderstone, Aviemore, Banbury, Birmingham St Andrews, Cardiff, Dundee, Flint, Grays & Folkestone Eurotunnel, Manchester Trafford Centre, Trumpington, Thetford, Uxbridge, Wokingham, Wyboston.

Abber - Flint - Trafford - Cardiff and Brum would all be options for me when out and about on longer trips coupled with some new instavolt units closer to home and along some more "rural" routes across country should make life comfortable.

Especially as three under 5's are not always appreciative of long stops whereas 15 minutes for a splash, charge and snacks is much more within their comprehension

Just a heads up Moxi, list..

If you visit Wybo lakes supercharger during the day now the loo situation (i've only used em 2x for slash, splash & dash) what was a cubicle room loo,? (or maybe thas just for night time? ..the loos are now accessed through golfers locker /changing rooms, just in case anyone with young kids go's charging in unawares ahead of dad.

Nice & clean though.
Also a small low fence enclosure dog run area to your left as you reverse in.
The clubhouse over the way (where the water sports are/were never used to ask for any membership when I was young, probably due to having an onsite shop (bought a nigh on dayglo yellow shortie "sola" wetsuit there in 1988 for my barefoot waterski-ing days ..with a lidl bakery over the road its a pretty good pit stop either way, &if with the missus, the cafe & cheap hotel chocolat factory outlet shop just behind lidl makes for a good treat stop, wife buys her reduced price hot chocolate bits there.

Plenty of options for taking a proper break on long trips passing that way, soon to experience upheaval @black cat "flyover" works.

I was speaking more from an industry shake up standpoint! As Tesla roll out new sites, give a better cheaper experience it will be harder for competitors to compete! Add in their ability to mega pack sites too to harvest cheap electric! Tesla power will be bigger than the car business I think.

As you say, the energy side of the business has incredible potential. Elon did suggest some time back that it was being underestimated and could exceed the automotive part.

Bit of mental gymnastics, but it was pointed out (end of 2022/early 2023) that just the Megapack sales part of the energy business might be worth $100/share. At a point in time when the share price was about $100, so buy an energy business, and get the car business thrown in for free.

The estimate was based on the annualised production target for the end of 2023 at the Lathrop facility, which taking account of rising prices (sold out till Q3 2024 (now Q4) already) gives an estimated profit of $4-$5 per share. Assume a share value multiplier of 20-25x for a growth stock*, and you get $100/share. Wow.

*Fair to say, I think, that energy storage demand will grow faster now than supply, and will grow vastly larger. So Tesla, and of course others, will be building more factories, and expanding production further.

Edit - Just to say that I've had a look at the Megapack prices, and they were $2.1m & $2.6m in late Feb, but today they are $2.4m & $2.7m respectively for the 4hr and 2hr versions. So looks like demand is still growing fast.

Well this is curious.
Although the V4 Supercharger stalls are rated for 1000V 615A, it seems that the power transformers they're connected to are still the same regular V3 250kW units - see photo sent by a contact of mine who's just gone there to take a look!

You may be able to have up to 1000V or up to 615A but not necessarily at the same time.

The transformers are rated for 500V and 650A.
So maybe they can connect to 2 to get to the 1000V output?

The input appears to be 1000V DC and 640A max, with the output 387KVA @480VAC , 4 outputs.

Is there a large degree of spin, saying the V4 Supercharger is 1000V 615A when that refers to the input, but it can charge 4 x 250kW?
