Not that I have got rid of the crashy laptop problem completely, but, suspiciously the past 12+ hrs of "broken" suddenly cleared up with a new microsoft reminder to use more of their "new search bar" ..coincidence or what!?

Ok, now for recommendations of safe, good idiot proof bloatware removal tools for folk like me! ..on your marks (poor mark) ..GO!!!

Mint is an easier migration IMO.

I’ve not used Mint personally but people I know who are very far from being computer nerds get on with it very well.

It is amazing how much better life gets once you remove Microsoft and all the associated frustrations.

I don’t ever seem to have a problem with Windows at work or at home.

My wife purchased a Google tablet a few years ago and it was pants, I’m sticking with windows life is easy with it so personally it’s one less thing to worry about

It's always on in the day. Never shut it down, power button configured to "hibernate" when pressed. Battery still lasts about 1 1/2 hours. Use Chrome as a browser (sits with around 40 tabs most of the time) and free Avast as anti virus - gave up with AVG years ago as it drained performance too much.

I just read AVG is avast !? now confused mm.

Avast bought AVG in 2016 but they are still separate companies and have differing products.

Ahhh! ..I see.

No definitely not getting hot, but I will look at the vents for accumulated dog related druff detritus.
Although a temp install for temp details etc might be an idea to home in on problems.

It won't necessarily feel hot. But blocked or restricted air flow and accumulated detritus on the heatsink fins can lead to reduced heat dissipation/removal from the processor with consequent rise in temperature and throttling back of performance.
