Don’t know if it’s the unfamiliarity of them, but, to me, they look ‘heavier’ and more intrusive, or maybe it’s the sight of something new marching across previously empty farmland.

Yes -can see them from the M5 , I think they are rather beautiful. But agree -they look like silent giants marching across the countryside.

Part of the Hinkley connection project, which now isn't going to be commissioned till Sept. 2028. You would have thought National Grid would have focussed on existing restrictions which cause some windfarms to have to curtail output as the grid can't handle the power.

Yes it must have been strange to see the same when the lattice towers appeared from 1931.

Quite a long design life really.

There will be major cost and maintenance savings in the new design, after all the lattice towers bits were all hauled up the tower as it was build with no high lifting cranes available.

I used to covet those 8 tonne plummet dual capstan winches they would tension the lines with.

You might be interested in the farming link thread in that case Fintray, ..the DNO comes up in a few threads re DNO reluctance to upgrade supp!y to "remote" areas (anywhere there's a farm) making it a long haul to get upgrades regardless of whether there is a renewables scheme or not ..which most folk don't wamt on their doorsteps but will buy no problem from an estate new build pretty close to it no problem as seen my way.

(also then a limiting factor for renewables projects that just got a lot closer to good open land)

Are these T-pylons concrete? Difficult to tell from the 3D render.

The diamond-shaped lattice for the cables looks more odd/intrusive than the actual pylons I think?

Steel with a concrete foundation, similar in construction to a wind turbine tower.

Does anyone know if there upgrading all the 275kva towers to 400kva.
