No, I mean on housing in general, easier than a roof, esp where there is no roof (in your instance abroad) but also as frontage for houses in the right direction(s) for upper floor walls.

I wonder what marine grade stick down film panels could achieve as solar planking / siding.

Oh OK, we actually have a decent roofspace that could take a system. Just not financially viable over the time we are here (about 4 months per year). The climate is so benign I'd be as well going for a solar thermal setup but even then we shower lukewarm most of the time and cold in full Summer. I guess I'll just keep playing along with the 5V stuff.

In fact and just thought of this. DW PV array has went international Turkish virtual and pays my small power bill here. Hey, we might beat the Morocco link yet!

Power has went off. WI-FI hotspot up and running on yesterday's solar charge as is phone.



Sadly still reliant on FF for my cuppa and my boiled eggs. On the upside one bottle of gas lasts two years.



We brought an old single ring cooker from home this trip. Idea being it's a back up if the gas runs out but I am now using it more often to offset the FF use!

Hoping our grid supply is coming from some of the big solar parks here. Don't see much private PV but there are plenty commercial scale entities out and about.

Made a 6 serving batch of spaghetti bolag on it last night, tonight and we'll jazz it up and turn the last two into chilli con for tomorrow.

Hmm, anyone care to guesstimate what mains 5v powered home modems in the uk suck up in a typical 16 hour activity day?

Can we not run the day portion off internal battery & potentially charge it cheaply at night???

Yes, some will say it's too small to bother with, but as per on this forum, the more you hammer it down & offset consumption versus use the happier we all seem to become, I wonder who will be first to do this? ..maybe have a word with Octopus energy spods.

It does logically seem to be time to consider designing in a removable (clip in) battery unit for easy replacement or as part of the recycling process for low wattage always on devices that sit on the mains, ..ditto wi-fi extenders, obviously.

I have it as 0.288kWh per 24 hr cycle for my grid connected network hub here. This will vary here and other locations. Not a lot but i'll plug in a fully charged 60,000mAh pack and see how we fair once I'm back with the 5v to 12v cable.

I might try it at Scottish home with a smaller battery pack if it's also 12vdc. It won't actually save any power there as its all off batteries & PV at this time of year. Nonetheless, just to see how long the 5v usb battery stays up for.
