So if the Government introduces a Law to make ID mandatory in order to be able to cast your democratic vote, then they should also provide free voter ID to all adults. Failing to do so automatically disenfranchises those who don't already have the right ID - FOR WHAT EVER REASON.
In my opinion (not that it counts for anything :D ) the need for ID to vote has been well publicised. "Free" ID is available for those without any acceptable form of photo ID, it's the "Voter Authority Certificate" So really don't see what the problem is.

The problem is not everyone knows about it, not everyone has ID and people ARE being turned away at the polling station unable to cast their vote because they don't have the correct ID, or any ID at all. Which is disenfranchising people.

We don't get a local paper, we don't t watch terrestial tv, bbc, nothing through the door, ..in effect "hard to reach" ..by the time I heard about free id it was closed.

There were no poster boards in the village announcing id needed..

When going out I have not seen any window posters alerting to a party / prospect.

I have zero idea as to what details are taken down on a "sensitive" document such as my passport with whom i do not share details with to a non passport control official , when presented for employer validation "you can vouch it is correct, but you are not taking it away from this room, & copying it should not happen, ..if you have a prolem with that then please explain implicitly why legally a physical copy has to be taken & show me the statute (or whatever) which demands it, understand my concerns re storage, security etc" cetc...

Giving a look at a "sensitive" personal document to someone in a bloody tabard to appraise without proper communication & appraisal ? ...b0110cks

But it says clearly on the Poll card right at the top in capital letters, everyone gets one, and they have had plenty of time to get the Voter Authority Certificate if they have no other acceptable form of ID (also listed on the Poll card. Perhaps it will teach people to actually read stuff and take responsibility for themselves. Short of employing a load of people to hand hold every voter in the country what is the government supposed to do?

see bit where poll cards are recieved at home address several weeks prior to election! ...none received by us, contrary to oficial wensite, no detail heard nor seen to state otherwise either.

in essence we rely on this as form of proof of right to vote as standard, haveany of you got yours?

Yes, we all got ours several weeks ago, as we do at every election - local of national - hence my lack of understanding at how people cannot know ID is required!

I have no problem at all to id to vote, plenty of warnings. I'd rather that, than someone vote who shouldn't even be able to vote.

I was the 14th person to vote at our polling station in the early afternoon. They were hoping to make it to 20 by close of play!

MM, list..

Reason I asked, having gone out to buy cheap pina colada hagen daas ice cream one spot over (4 miles) folk also under the illusion that there is voting today, drove by both our village & the next place overs usual polling station.. no sign, closed doors, but lots of media chatter that there is, ..ie uncertainty as to natioal / local etc ..just lots of 4 th may, voting day "must have photo id"...everyone (10 or more) thought there was a vote today, locally ..have never experienced this degree of confusion regarding elections, esp with no confirmation talk (till MM) of folk still receiving their home addressed pre-vote notification.

& bugger all on the process with photo id anywhere, just that you'll need it, & door checkers will be asking.

If it was happening I wanted some proper insight (proceedural walkthrough)
But not today apparently 😳
