solar on windfarms?

#1

Post by Mr Gus »

What is the perceived thought on solar farm amongst windfarms exactly?
(i.e has turbine sail sweep & shadow been measured as to reduced effectiveness properly in any proper scientific modelling, ditto for inactive periods?

Obviously the tower is always going to cast shadow.. but to what degree (looking at land use here) what is the cost day to day, seasonally etc..

Micro inverters tech n'all that are presumably used on modern large scale solar farms I presume? is double deployment possible?

Ah yes all those famous onshore windfarm sites.

They have enough trouble putting them where they are needed in the first place.

The time may yet come for this. Might not be in our generation though. Angel of the North type solar wings maybe with a nod to the ISS?

Some info here on colocation.
https://www.cornwall-insight.com/wp-con ... -final.pdf

But my opinion for the UK where its windy like hilltops, its generally cloudy, but could work say in East Anglia, Cornwall or some other coastal locations.
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 27MWh generated
6 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 510 m3

Enjoying the doc with my morning tea. It certainly supports Gus's idea and hits all the positives.

The whole no new WT's thing in England. What was the driver behind that? Surely it cant just be NIMBYism?

What happened to to idea of eminent domain in regard to siting WT's? I'd have thought that would have been the logical next move?

There's a site near the M25 around junction 19 or something like that where there's a solitary wind turbine near the top of a hill and there are some solar panels situated underneath it. Not many though.

Edit - it's the turbine at Kings Langley.

I don't see the issue (at all) yes there is a bit of a shadow, but the is also no sun on a windy night that balances the books? Surely?
We make 10kw solar 13kw wind, some bread and lots of beer.
We grow & cook loads.
We eat Fibre, Fat & no Fecking barcodes.
We swear at the heat pump (not strictly true)

Windbag, do you know your average annual solar and wind generation stats in kWh ?
