Gas Usage while on holiday?
Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
my neighbour has his Worcester Bosch in the garage (with a metal door) and in deep winter i am surprised how often it comes on every 5mins or so for perhaps one minute (never timed it) at a very low setting.
Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
Our boiler is getting on for 20 years now. An Alpha 32CDS system boiler. It does not fire up unless demanded to. We are back to 0.00kWh gas per month the last few.
Strange to think of it as an old boiler as it looks brand new!

Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
May be short cycling, and need the output turned down to match (ish) the heat loss.
Lots of boilers are oversized
Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
Oh yes definetely oversize at 30kw in a small bungalow probably EPC B. I think people are reluctant to go smaller because of hot shower. I have a 24kw with a tank and most of the time it is fully modulated down in a EPC C/D large bungalow.
Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
30kwh is enough for a small hotel.
Oversizing in the boiler.industry is ridiculous in the UK.

Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
I'm thinking of swapping out 30kW gas boiler for a 6kW heat pump!
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger
(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
The heat engineer app is a good survey tool for heat loss calculation, one off costs a tenner and it’s a decent report.
Re: Gas Usage while on holiday?
It's much better to do actual heat loss measurements though. Not hard with cheap sensors and enough time!

Ref " I'm thinking of swapping out 30kW gas boiler for a 6kW heat pump! "
If your living well down South and not up North.
Heat pump O.K. if you use P.V. to heat the water.
In shower / bath water not hot enough.
Heat pump O.K. If you have lots of layers of clothing to wear inside the house in the Winter.
Fitted a 6kW ground source heat pump here 20 years ago. Really good for cooling the house a few times in the Summer.
The temperature they give out for heating.
