This is really excellent to see. Kirkhill is on the doorstep as are many hundreds of other WT's. The view of Turbine volume when I flew in from Belfast to Glasgow a couple of years back was astonishing.

Yes that's the planned "Celtic Link" avoiding Brexity Britain altogether.

I was hoping to avoid the B-word, but energy IS tied up in poly-tricks so no point beating about the bush I suppose.

The EU has previously part-funded the Interconnectors we now have/are building as part of the "Common Interest" fund, but as we're no longer in the EU, they're not. And as we're no longer fully embedded in the EU electricity trading market, it makes the transactions more costly - so I it does make sense for the Republic of Ireland to want to avoid us and plug straight into France purely from an EU point of view.

I get that, & understand the reasoning completely, which still puts the UK (well, london govt) nose well out of joint, just like our "expectation" of unfettered access to so many projects (space etc) carrying on regardless ...how wrong!

Will they (EU & IE) be able to swing it round enough to make the job attractive enough or is it merely masking posturing & eventual, inevitable deal making concessions do you think? (in which case what "pie" is London after & likely to get)

A Mr Hitler & a paper waving English pm springs to mind as to how this plays out.

Not sure if this is a silly thought, but given the issues (currently) of shifting high wind generation from Scotland to southern parts of England/Wales, could this interconnector help?

I'm thinking that as we have an interconnector to Ireland, then perhaps the leccy could work its way from Scotland that way, assuming the N. Ireland/Ireland grids can move it.

Obviously it will all depend on local generation, and prices, but the more routes/choice, perhaps the better, for all?

Slightly roundabout way to shift power around but it's possible I guess - with more wires, the power can go more places.
