I’m Not following how do you get a pre off peak charge time slot?

You plug in and Octopus chooses when your car charges. You could be forgiven for thinking that if your car needs 5hrs of charge that’d happen in the fixed cheap period, but Octopus often decides to charge your car outside of the fixed cheap slot and gives your whole house cheap electric for all those periods. Obviously they have their reasons, I’m just hoping it continues into winter…

Your EV's soc when you plug in and battery size might make a difference too?

Which and this is just a thought that arrived now. It might be advantageous to keep the soc lower and charge at a slower rate so the next time plugging in the soc isn't too high and the longer slot pops up if possible?

Sometimes, I don't get any schedule sent to me at all after plugging in. Happy though when it does work.

Help them out when I can and thats without any storage heaters. Trying for Start Oct before they are timed to charge :D

Well I played about with it, and although I was about 50 minutes from a full charge according to the EV, Octopus gave me a 10 minute slot, so car got a charge, storage heater got a boost and air fryer was going on anyway so a bonus

Appreciate the info!

I thought you had to do at least one smart charge a month or risk getting booted?

If you "disconnect" it in the APP, then IO loses your vehicle login details and you will need to re-onboard within a month, you will get an email reminder after 3 weeks. So never select the "Disconnect device" option.

But you can "disable" it indefinitely, "Smart Charging" toggle at the bottom of the screen. This is the second year I've gone 4 or 5 months during the summer without an active session and the smart charging has been disabled for the entire time. I've not had an email reminder and I'm still on IO.

That's great!

I've been making a special effort to do a smart charge every month, complete with manually changing inverter settings then changing them back again!

My winter plan is to plug in once my house battery is exhausted, so no inverter settings need changing.
