Small things matter
Re: Small things matter
Nice to see a wee Robin surveying his kingdom.
Recommencing the sky extension job from last year
First one pollarded but hung up. Makes for an exciting morning.

Re: Small things matter
Gardens looking good JB, dreadful weather here today very blustery and sideways rain, heavy overcast with only a 150 Wp incoming but thanks to a sunny finish to yesterday we woke with the house batteries at 31%SoC, a pleasant surprise so the brisket is in the pot and slow cooking on the induction hob and the kids are having a pyjama morning watch cartoons and playing.
Got two new chickens arriving later at PoL to bolster the flock after losing a couple of the OAPs to old age last month.
Might be the day the boss asks for the WBS to be lit and if so the need will be transferred to that to finish its cooking along with some of the veg. Fingers crossed she asks for a fire as I enjoy cooking on top of the WBS.
The Cottage is ticking along to a nice autumnal and mellow pace today and it is most welcome.

Always a bit of a fraught time introducing new chickens to an existing flock, hopefully not too much henpecking to put up with.Moxi wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 10:03 am Gardens looking good JB, dreadful weather here today very blustery and sideways rain, heavy overcast with only a 150 Wp incoming but thanks to a sunny finish to yesterday we woke with the house batteries at 31%SoC, a pleasant surprise so the brisket is in the pot and slow cooking on the induction hob and the kids are having a pyjama morning watch cartoons and playing.

Re: Small things matter
Shouldn’t be too problematic as we introduce them to the same run but with a divider for a few days so they get acquainted then once they are settled we remove a section of the divider - there’s roosting both sides and we find the dynamic settles quite fast with only minor squabbles. Another advantage is we don’t keep a cockerel which seems to make the ladies calmer.
It is strange though how chucks get very protective of their flock isn’t it.

Re: Small things matter
Nice blue skies there today, we have high cloud base with some blue patches and a lot of edge scatter so the panels are producing quite well for this time of the year and day.
The chickens are all settled in, so much so that we took the divider down as everyone seems to be at ease which each other never seen them settle quite so fast before but they are scratching around side by side with the regulars picking up corn and seed with no bother at all.
Looking forward to some cake later in the week once the extra eggs start

Get another 6 feet off those trees!!
Re: Small things matter
Felling the 35 years olds down to 1mtr, they'll come again. There are hundreds of second growth too and thousands of saplings. I have set myself the challenge of doing most of it with a solar chainsaw. Keeps me from over revving myself.
