Same here - if it can blow away it already hasMoxi wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 8:39 am Morning,
Still here
No damage, everything was tied down, wedged or put away and I as I apt to say we do get a lot of 50 to 60mph winds so it wasn't really much above the norm.
Wish I had one of those cheap Chinese WT's up last night though, it might, just might, have got close to its labelled output of 200W

We ended up taking 47kWh from grid last night and yet managed £6+ into the VB as well. No1's wee PV array is now storm certified and outputting nicely.
I'm logsplitting before heading off into the Highlands in the EV to pick up some used furniture with SWMBO.
A great RE day indeed.

Interesting quote from Ripple monthly update.
"Planning for Project 4 is well underway. We’ve got both wind farms and new solar park projects in our pipeline."

Still hope for more wind then, that would be good for me and some of my older children, assuming the financing is more in tune with the more mature projects and not more like the last example.

Thanks for educating me further with windspeed and lifts from height. Always great have an input from those with experience on the matter. Since then Jamie from Ripple added the piece below.Joeboy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:47 amThe storm hits tomorrow I think. Winds picking up here already. I felled one split trunk tree this morning. Each trunk about 10" and 50' high. I had further plans but called it all stop. Even with wedges and care it was a twin pucker moment (s).
Ah the sun just came out, joy!
We were limited for crane ops offshore incl in port to 30knts and falling at deck height. Does make me wonder the parameters for the big crane at KH. Tip of boom must be 60mtrs up and it fairly comes blasting in there.

The wind speed limits for lifting depend on the component being lifted (it's lower for the blades for instance) but generally it's around 9 metres per second. It's been challenging recently and this has slowed progress on T2 a bit but they have been taking advantage of weather windows when they arise. The forecast is looking a good bit better for next week.
Re: Part ownership of a Ripple Wind Turbine, fancy it?
No worries, glad to help. The 'and falling' is key. 20mph sounds like plenty especially when thinking of hub & blade unit lift.
Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey.

Great video update from Jamie. First time I've seen T1 rotating and nightshift news too!

September capacity factor graph time for the GF wind turbine,
Well ahead of last September and not far below baseline at 4% less.

Re: Part ownership of a Ripple Wind Turbine, fancy it?
Graig Fatha payback for September takes me to 33.3% payback in a mere 18 months !! My projected £ break-even is currently 4.5 years ( ignoring Basic Rate Tax liability ) - . . . . which is around HALF the time I had originally expected.
The "Carbon Break-even point" suggested by Ripple - at six months - is long gone. Thus it's all zero / near-zero carbon generated power ongoing.
