I wonder what the figure would be for people drawing down their home batteries, i.e. self-consuming what they either generated earlier today or topped up in the wee small hours?

Pity on the majority in England holding back on WT's eh? :ugeek:

Not a dig.

Or maybe it's a minority? I would also be interested to know the approx number of homes with battery storage.

England's not looking so bad here:

but maybe a smaller proportion of the population than in Scotland.
p.s. and guess what I found?

Based purely on generation, then not a record this morning, a mere 18.17 GW's, but 74.1% of current demand with a further 1.03 GW's each being exported to Netherland, France and Belgium. Better than being curtailed I guess.
For anyone on TOU tariff then -£14.19/MWH.
GF is doing it's bit too, while finance wise it is approaching a four figure return for us since start up. :D

Around Thurs looks nuts, should be back into 20GW territory if not a record.Image

You look correct, I looked through the data on Gridwatch and the highest generation on CCGT is 26.109 GW @ 18:20 today 01/12/23.

And this is shortly after the saving session when people increased their demand or reduced their export. :fan:

Well I drained my battery and now I'm pulling fropm the grid, and I imagine there will be more than few households doing the same. None of this seems surprising given this was the point of the exercise? Perhaps there was a misjudgement, but I thought the point was to stop the grid falling over and the reduce the use of coal, rather than to reduce gas use.

Coal can't go any higher - that's all that's left and even that won't be around for much longer - so I guess it makes sense that any extra thermal generation would be taken up by gas. If the saving sessions mean the Grid avoids the really nasty oil/diesel or OCGT units firing up then it's still a win.

Heysham 1 will be back in a week or so which brings another 500MW back into play, with Torness 2 a week or so after that, for another 500MW

I do not see the point of the saving sessions storeing demand up and all coming at once - seems to be making matters worse. Must be missing something.
