Southampton has had a geothermal plant in the city centre for decades.

Excellent smaller scale numbers (compared to Iceland) yet doing well.Bugtownboy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 7:47 am Southampton has had a geothermal plant in the city centre for decades.

Re: From fracking to geothermal
Was expecting it to be more than "hot water for 300 homes" but it's better than nothing - indeed better than burning the gas. Wonder if it leaks gas out of there?

Re: From fracking to geothermal
Definitely small scale but excellent nonetheless. I'd love to be offered a geothermal project through energy4all or similar. Good question on the gas build up. I'd think it would be minimal. Leads to the question are these boreholes lined with casing or open hole? Sealed at top? Maybe someone will be along who is in the knowing.dan_b wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 10:59 am Was expecting it to be more than "hot water for 300 homes" but it's better than nothing - indeed better than burning the gas.
