Kris Harbour installs a 1.5kW overshot waterwheel
This is part 2, installing the wheel and trouble-shooting for the client in the Lake District.
Re: Kris Harbour installs a 1.5kW overshot waterwheel
Nice I watched the first video last week and forgot about it.
That’s tomorrow viewing!

So cool. There must be a lot of water mills around the country that could be brought back to life like this

Re: Kris Harbour installs a 1.5kW overshot waterwheel
Thanks Stan,
Best RE video i've seen. A great start to the day.
Looking forward to the tweaks video too. Was that Storm Anna he was referring too i wonder?
I'd try a curved nose cone on the front to control the drop & catch/drop the splash up into its own bucket. I'd maybe even narrow it a little as well to reduce the width of water hitting the bucket. Very, very cool build. A nice size too, way beyond diy yet not quite commercial? Not meant as a criticism, deeply impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing the radius he fits in the chute to smooth out the flow.

Re: Kris Harbour installs a 1.5kW overshot waterwheel
A fairly damning indictment of Made in China goods.
Although thats not an entirely accurate description of the problem, there is good kit that comes out of China, but typically designed by the west to our standards (but not always ^^) then the locals try to do the same thing using cheap as chip parts that might work for a while.
I just wish trading standards in the UK would deal with the problems caused by Amazon sellers (Ultimately Amazon, despite what they say) selling moody and in some cases dangerous goods. But thats another story for another forum perhaps.

Re: Kris Harbour installs a 1.5kW overshot waterwheel
I felt sorry for him. Can see his frustration at the end. Shonky Chinese sh**e that could be so much better. Decent 600W motor though!

Re: Kris Harbour installs a 1.5kW overshot waterwheel
From memory of the first video Its a 3 phase alternator, so each winding is taking a 1/3 of the current not the full current. So on the face of it the wiring size is correct but with no safety margin, so the wiring is at its limit but there is another contributing issue at play to create the issue to start at 1/3 rated output. If it is single phase then changing to 3 phase would be beneficial.
