One hour in and the cabin temp is now 14 degs. A 5 deg rise in hour from 6 month Stone cold hearth and cabin. The giraffe of Tenerife is ever watching.

Gazing at a fire is SO relaxing, the mind just drriifftts.

SWMBO is happy and absolutely agrees on upvc not being bonnie.

Trying out the 2 gallon cooking pot on house WBS for a chilli con HUGE batch cook. If it doesn't get quite enough heat i"ll try it on the full open top WBS in the cabin this evening. It was started on the induction hob. Should be enough for twenty.

We did well with Garlic this year -lasted us about 6 months. Chillies were/are good too - we had some ‘unknown’ Habanero type - so tasty, but the heat

Really crept up on you after the floral taste

Cheers BTB,chilli's are all homegrown (4 types in this pot). Sadly not the garlic though. I have 1.5kgs beef mince & 0.5kg pork mince in here. Looking at 6 to 8 tins of beans later this evening. I wonder if I could bulk buy dried kidney and cannelloni beans? Might look into that for the nuclear bunker (garage shelves).

I love a WBS cook out, any excuse will do! This two gallon.pot (£3) is large as I can go up in the house. Seems a logical conclusion to the WBS cook learning curve. Then again...

Joe, I’d always go with dried. Great to have around in a non-preppy sense.

Don’t know what beans you’re using, but we prefer black beans in a chilli.

Dried Beans/Legumes are such a good thing to have in the ‘pantry’ and if you’re organised, as easy as tinned.

To me, dried taste better too.

If you want to soften them up a bit, put a tablespoon of bicarb in the soaking water.

Forgot to say, Indian/Asian supermarkets can be a good source of bulk legumes.

May be a bit basic, but good.

Rightio, next advancement! Next time in Turkey. Although I'll be needing a sweep through the Chinese supermarket soon.
